We had a lovely welcome here. We rested around the pool - the idea that a 'resident' elephant might visit was very exciting. Although the individual campsite was smaller than others, this was not an issue. Food beside the pool was fine. There are two pools in this Lodge - we imagined that they might be very crowded in the high season.
Nice campsite - #3, though not great being right next to the pool and bar - as if people are up late, your quiet experience is somewhat spoiled. Otherwise, good facilities, friendly staff, and good activities. Stanley is an average guide. Says the standard things, answers questions when asked, but otherwise, doesn't seem that interested. Again, not a wilderness experience - too many people around to feel you are really out there, but comfortable and a good location for exploring.
The campsite at Palmwag Lodge was well signed and in a great location right on the river bank. We had good facilities for for bathroom and washing up, and we were a very short walk to the main lodge.
Palmwag was fantastic.
Everyone was very kind and welcoming.
Beautiful place. Lot of elephants seen in the reserve.
Beautiful lodge in Kuene Region Namibia. Great staff! The real Boss at the lodge is an old elephant who comes to visit from time to time.
Nice place with "Jumbo" close to the tent
2 nights was good - 3 would have been too many.
Beautiful location, with the marvelous mountains, beautiful lodge with an incredible staff and owner. Very pleased to add this stop here at palmwag
Nice lodge/camping, but concession area overrated imo.
Beautiful charming place, great pool. We loved our stay.
This lodge was a disappointment. The room allocated was nothing like the photos on Palmwag's own website. There was not a single chair or sun lounger with a cushion meaning that a relaxing day or even evening was out of the question. The meals were good although not of the standard of all the other resorts/lodges we stayed in. The standard achieved is really 3.5 not any higher.
Nice camp, individual and private pitch overlooking the reeds and bush. Lots of wildlife in camp (elephants, lion, hyena whilst we were there!). Very helpful staff, but the prices were very expensive - two soft drinks were more than double what we paid in Etosha (which I thought would be the more expensive given it's touristy fame). No walking allowed without a guide and excursions were all fairly expensive compared with elsewhere on the trip...
Lovely lodge - the boys loved all three pools and the elephant. It was very hot at night - with only fans to move around the hot air - but the room itself was very comfy and spacious for the four of us.
Very friendly, lovely place. We enjoyed the evening bonfire and outside bar.
This place could use some upgrading. Basically it is ok but there is nothing to do there, the scenery is ugly and there is no wi fi, no aircon even though it is extremely hot in the rooms at night, and the pool was freezing. Would recommend staying for one night only on the way to someplace else.
We were incredibly lucky to stay in one of the new tents with great views over the plains. It is a bit further to walk, but worth it. The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make our stay great, even made special vegetarian options for me at meal times. The game drives are more about scenery than spotting loads of animals, but the place is so peaceful, just relax and enjoy it! The game rangers have many stories to tell about the flora and its many uses in local culture, so definitely worth doing at least one game drive.
Good sites and two pools, lots of birds around and good guided walk around adjacent reserve.
location :very nice game drive : excellent lodge : prima
Excellent area with good facilities. We had an elephant walk past our pitch within a few feet and spend 15 minutes feeding on the vegetation. Staff are friendly and helpful. Would recommend the half day rhino tracking.
Excellent lodge with great views and excellent game drives. We especially enjoyed the black rhino tracking. Staff and guides were all excellent.
We spent 3 nights in the campground here. Although the general location is scenic, the campground does not make the best use of the views. Our site was a bit cramped and the grounds were messy due to construction. Some of the new bungalows located on the access road were quite ugly. Still, once we settled here we enjoyed our stay, which afforded some close encounters with wildlife. The ablutions were new, sufficient for the number of guests, and we enjoyed the bar and restaurant area for the campers. Sites had power, lighting, a sink, braai and a covered area, although natural shade was limited.
Super friendly and one of the best places we stayed. Rhino Tracking was expensive but one of the highlights. Our guide Christine was no nonsense but charming and hugely knowledgeable and passionate about conservation. Food good but as with most places it was a bit over cooked. Tented chalets are well appointed BUT being tented and close together you "share" in everyone's slightest noise.
we were at the campsite very nice and comfortable but more expensive than others.
Good service. Oasis in the middle of nowhere. Great Game Drive ..... found the Desert Elephant.
A nice enough place, we upgraded to a room because we wanted a break from camping but we felt two nights here was unnecessary as there wasn't really anything to see or do. Would have preferred another night at Epupa.
Nice food, well-run establishment. Pleasant rooms.
Super with the chalet just in front of the water, but was to dry at that time and we could not see the elephants as expected.
We liked this very much - very different from places we had been staying in previously. But next time, I might stay in the Dolomite Camp in Etosha instead. But I was happy seeing the desert elephants.
Not so nice, the cabin was a bit old and not well maintained. Also food like breakfast ect had no thrills, one of the not so nice lodges
Very good evening game drive with Nicki, would recommend
Building work underway while we were there. The camp seemed a bit utilitarian though the food was good. Room was large but rather basic and simply stood in the middle of a gravel area. Could do with a bit of imagination in its development.
One of the most beautiful areas in Namibia. Elephants in the campsite. Too bad only guided hikes are allowed in the area.
would have been nice to have the opportunity to book the gamedrive in advance, because it might be fully booked when arriving at the lodge.
Nice location, but the lodge and ablution blocks on the camp site are being renovated and that seems to cause some logistical problems. We had to share one toilet and one shower with two large tour groups and several other camp site guests. Hopefully this will improve once the renovations are done.
Excellent camping facilities here. Much more than we expected. Staff were helpful. Landscape amazing. Only disappointment was that there wasn`t a morning game drive the days we were staying there.
I was very disappointed in palmwag lodge.for the money they charge one would expect more.for instance the light in the bathroom should work.there should be a coffe facility or at least a kettle in a 2 500 $ room.there was not even a glass to drink water out of.we stayed in one of the so called luxury tends and the approach to the teny is horrendous.you have to drag and carry your luggage over rocks and there is no lights showing the way.if you do not have a torch you brake your leg going home after dinner at night.althoug the food was very nice I definatley will not recommend this lodge to anybody.Unfortunately it is the only lodge in the area therefore there is obviously no need for improvement,we stayed on our trip through Namibia in many places and for a mere R 600.0 we had better accommodation and facilities.
Excellent. The scenery was amazing. The site of the lodge fantastic. The game drives were very good. Not as much game as Etosha but such a beutiful place.
Desolation ! Very noisy constructions which we were not advised of, tents facing each other and a big hedge on the path between other bungalows and the restaurant, not at all what we can see on the pictures of the site. Medium food, meat served cold ! The worst place we have been in comparison with the price paied. Not worth at all it`s price
Very comfortable, good food, great location and appearance despite building work taking place during my stay. But thatching is not unattractive! Had a nice evening tour and sundowners on a high vantage point.
Good stop over for the night. In middle of renovations. Would be great when water in the river.
Comments relate to the camping ground - not lodge. Nice setting and the swimming pools were a lovely respite from the heat of the day. Somewhat disappointed with the conservatory surrounding the lodge. Roads were brutal and the game was sparse - no rhinos! However, we did have a porcupine visit us during the night! Nonetheless a good choice of campsite but a little more information about what to do around the area would have been helpful.
This lodge was in the process of renovation but even with this in mind we found it was not up to standard especially as it was expensive. Staff were not very friendly. The accomodation was poor and dust blew in, spiders on the beds. We went out for the day and rooms were not serviced. There was no information in the rooms regarding meal times or trips available. Food was OK but service in restaurant was poor.
Very good but charged for the intenet
Initially a little disappointed as it looked a little tatty in places (both the grounds and our room). However, it was clear an elephant living in the grounds was responsible for the garden damage! Our room was clean ... tho` it was a little odd having a rolling screen instead of a bathroom door (not particularly nice). Excellent game drive. Really patient and knowledgeable driver/guide (Peter).
We went this way to see the beautiful surroundings and we`re still glad we did. The campsite was nothing special however and we`re happy we stayed there only one night. Rating: 7/10.
nice rooms, very friendly staff, two clean, comfortable pools, a `lodge elephant` next to our room in the night, very interesting game drive, breakfast good, dinner ok, we`d go there again
Great setting and close to wildlife. Rustic tent setting suited the site.
Very luxury campsite. We met the elephant around the camping..
Nice place and good food but we think that the elephants was a little to close to our tents at night.
We arrived there one day before, and we had the possibility to spend one night in the campsite, wich is nice. The safari tent were very confortable, but a little noisy (with the Wind).
The place is amazing but our room was obsolete.
Excellent camping but the workers at the reception desk were not very helpful. Would have been an improvement if more information about wild-life in the area was available. Elephants passed just next to our campsite in the morning, and it would have been helpful to know this might be the case and what to do if this happened.
Palmwag Lodge has a really nice camp site were everyone has his own bathroom, toilet and a lot of space. We saw 3 times elephants at this campsite :) .
Positive stay. Tented rooms are quite cool in the night but this is part of the game. Good quality of dinner served at restaurant as wlel as staff cooperation. Very good the morning excursion, that must be recomended.
Great location. We took part in the full day game drive, which was great. We didn't see a lot of animals (although elephants in the end), but the landscape of the Palmwag Concession is also special.
Beautiful lodge, beautiful setting. Very nice afternoon drive + sundowner
Excellent. Great Setting. Love the private facilities for the campsite. Just an amazing place in the middle of nowhere.
Wonderful place! A favourite!! Beautiful tent!!
fantastic location with the elephant who ate in front of us!
The lodge does not seem to be maintened at a decent standard. The quality/price ratio is very bad. The wildlife excursion was very good (also due to the guide).
Wonderful location with fantastic safari experience and nice facilities. One of my best stay in Namibia
Clean and ok. Had everything we needed. Had a great morning game drive with gamedriver Everest! Very knowledgable person and a very good guide!!
Beautiful sunset and conservancy
Good, good morning drive and interesting afternoon walk, guide very nice
beautifull scenery. We left after 1 night because to many Germans drinking at the bar at night.
Lovely location for enjoying the spectacular Damaraland scenery. Management should look around and attend to a few small details.
Stunning location - a palm oasis in the semi-desert environment. Our guide - Pieter - was first class. He really went out of his way to show us the area & showed us many of the desert adapted plants & animals explaining how they coped with the conditions. Staff were great fun at dinner time dancing & singing. The camp looked a bit shabby & tired. The septic tank did not smell very pleasant! A little restructuring would help.
Beautiful camping and excursions.
Very nice lodge, great excursions
Tents the pick of the accommodation. Damaraland all day excursion...guide Rudi a font of knowledge...animals dispersed because of preceding wet but stunning scenery
Very friendly staff, with excellent service. If you have a game drive, try and get Stephanus as your Guide as he is excellent. A great place to spend a night or two.
We loved the place. Next time I will stay much longer
Excellent place once you find it. We wish we would have known about the road conditions to get to Palmwag and had planned more time to truly enjoy our stay. Shorter excursions would be welcome.
OK but becoming frayed around the edges! Excellent guide on a game drive which was the reason for visiting. Bird mess on sofas in lounge area of bar/dining room - birds helping themselves to guests food buffet with equal distribution of droppings! Pool poor and possibly not very clean.
wonderfull and amazing place
wonderful palce and the kindest people
The staff was very kind.
