We loved this Lodge - bungalow's are low impact on the environment, offer amazing views, are very comfortable and are beautifully decorated and finished. Food was amazing with excellent service. We made use of the day trips to Sossusvlei and the sunset horse trail - both amazing options available. We would love to return one day.
Lovely setting - plenty of activities that they would organise, but they were pricey.
Had a fantastic stay here! We loved the DHL.
Loved this lodge too.
Fantastic accommodation- recommend horse riding (even for experienced riders) and trip to the dunes
Such an unusual place. Highly recommend the organised trip to Sossusvlei which was brilliant, so glad we opted for it rather than driving ourselves as found out so much more. Very nice food here including for vegetarian
Far from nothing and very relaxing
Beautiful location and great views from the chalets. The staff was very nice and we very much enjoyed our stay here!
A unique location, we liked it from the start. Very well managed by Ms Behr and her staff. All went smoothly and we departed with a smile and a very high opinion on the lodge. Needless to say that all activities booked went ahaead with best of care and support - the sundowner with Willo was a highlight simply because of the info we received throughout, the location for the sundown and his participation in our communication. It was special event for me. This land Namibia is blessed with a landscape that takes a grip to the soul. Thank you all in Desert Homestead for this unforgettable stay.
Lovely family unit and nice food.
Fabulous location, comfortable with great service
This was a very nice place with great food. It was on the pricey side and we spent more here than we would have liked but it also provided close access to the balloon ride the next morning making the arrival easier.
Excellent accommodation, setting in the desert and food. There are two negatives; 1) the inability to park a car near the chalet and 2) the distance to Sossusvlei
Nice chalet, great view. We did the day trip to the dunes and it was the best decision. Our guide Paulhus was very knowledgeable. We did the horse ride and on our way back to the stable, there was an incident with our daughter who fell off the horse. She ended up with a few bruises. Management did not charge for her ride, which was appreciated.
Wonderful stay, excellent hotel, fantastic location.
Great option but maybe a little far from the gates, although it only meant that we had to get up a little earlier to be at the gates at 6am. All day tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes was certainly a plus.
Too hot!! We arrived in 50C heat and despite assurances that things cooled down in the desert at night the rooms were 38C when we went to bed and 32C when we got up (without having slept). Luckily we were transferred to the Outpost, where the rooms have limited A/C and that was much better. The pool area at Outpost as well as the restaurant was excellent. It can be a long walk to the chalet though.
Really nice place - fans in the rooms are totally ineffective. Service was solid, but after the personal touch of the Zebra River Lodge, felt a little more reserved. Setting was gorgeous!
A beautiful spot. The guided trip into Sossusvlei was excellent; I'm glad I did it with them and not on my own.
Wonderful place and amazing service! Wish the rooms had airconditioners, but we understand that running off of solar power makes this near impossible.
The accommodation & food were good but the management (& therefore the staff performance) was a bit hit & miss. E.G. There was virtually no ice for the sundowner drinks & no cups for tea & coffee for the brunch on the Sossusvlei / Deadvlei excursion. The kitchen appeared not to understand what gluten free food was all about. However the accommodation was nice.
Beautiful lodge - absolute stunning views and time - morning horse ride really good
I liked it here - but not a huge amount to do.
Great start to the trip, very comfortable place.
The room was very nice . We seemed to be alone in the world....the food was great and the staff very friendly
This lodge was very good. The service was excellent - loved the breakfast package to take to the dunes! Room was good quality - very tastefully decorated, with good quality finishings and stunning views. Would definitely recommend.
perfect and very sympathique. It looks as a brand new lodge
extremely friendly staff and really good meals. The sunset horse ride was a bit expensive, slow and frustrating. Wouldn't recommend it unless you've never ridden a horse before.
Amazing resort. Staff was always there for us and the setting could not be more blissful. The nighttime sky here is special. Highly recommend the guided excursion to Sossusvlei, especially if you don't have a 4x4.
Initially, it felt as if the lodge was located out in the middle of nowhere, and far from the Sossusvlei area, but it was actually a very lovely place to relax and enjoy the desert environment. We took the guided trip to Sossusvlei offered by the lodge, and it was an excellent tour - complete with a champagne brunch. The meals at the lodge were also very good, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We were also impressed by the comfort of the cottage and how it fully operated on solar power. Highly recommended.
Great accommodation. Lovely setting, very friendly, great food.
What a gorgeous place to stay! Everything was top notch at Desert Homestead. The decor is fresh and pretty, the location scenic, cleanliness well above par, food tasty and the staff attentive and friendly. I wish we could have stayed longer!
Excellent resort. Staff were extremely good and friendly. Morning organised drive to Sossusvlei was one of our highlights.
One of our least favorites. Service was awful. (the guides served dinner and breakfast - VERY slow and forgetful). Rooms nice however. Next time, I would stay closer to Sossusvlei.
We had a lovely room with a beautiful view!
Peaceful. Relaxing. Good interaction with the staff. Highly recommend the sundowner horse ride.
Perfect for riding ! Friendly !
This place was wonderful, right out in the bush with a lovely tranquil feel. We were very comfortable here though found the food a little disappointing. Not sure why they felt they had to serve calamari so far away from the sea?
Amazing location! For those who are not horse riders, additional activities could be considered
Nice little houses & good view. A few animals around. Windy in the afternoon
One of our preferred lodge.Well located. Not far from sossuvslei. excellent location with wonderfull view on the mountains. Very good welcome.
Lovely lodge, nice dinner and amazing views. Even though it is close to the nature reserve and there are many hotels in the area, you still have a feeling of isolation. We were sitting out on our stoop after dinner and in the dark we saw some movement... It was a Gemsbok just walking by. Lovely! Dinner was very nice. We also did sunset horse ride. This was out of this world! So relaxing and beautiful, you really felt at piece with the surroundings.
Nice albeit short stay here... and the fruit basket was appreciated! Weather let us down a bit (no starry skies, only thunderstorms!) but it`s a very good location for exploring the Namib dunes and the little huts are cool! Overall, we had a pleasant stay. Breakfast packs were a welcome addition for the early start to the park gates at Soussvlei.
Beautiful lodge and excellent service.
We liked this lodge. The main building and terrace are well designed, the staff were welcoming and the food was good. We were pleased our thatched chalet rooms and our teenagers had a lot of fun on the 2hr horse ride. We booked the day trip to Sousossvei. I hadn`t realised quite how far away the park entrance is from this lodge it took about an hour just to get to the gate. It was very cold on the open sided vehicle and I wish I`d worn warmer/windproof clothes. This trip was quite pricy, but overall we were pleased that we had taken it, as it was good to have a guide, to be driven all the way, and to enjoy a champagne brunch at In addition, the Wi-Fi worked reasonably well.
Very cosy, nice and neat family chalet.
Nice lodge with good service and facilities. Staff were friendly and helpful. Possibly a little far from the Sossusvlei gate for people wanting to get into the park before sunrise. Only comment regarding arrangement was that we would have preferred to have dinner included in the rate as the lodge appeared to be the only place in the area to get dinner.
We loved it, we`ll miss our hosts and the personnel; recommended!
Nice rooms. Helpful staff. Good value
Fantastic views. Great service - very helpful staff. Nice chalets (but AC would have been nice)
We were the only guests and were extremely well looked after. The setting of the lodge is perfect for enjoying the tranquility of the desert and it is located a short drive from Sesriem, the gate to Sossusvlei. A breeze kept us cool in the evening while we enjoyed the excellent food.
Die lodge is baie aangenaam en is vriendelik ontvang.
It needs an important reform. Today it is expensive.
Stayed in a thatched bungalow. It was very good. The food was also very good. The staff asked about any food allergies when we arrived and catered for my wife`s gluten free diet.
Brilliant experience, great food and a wonderful morning ride. Great location, would have stayed a second night.
This property was great, rooms were nicely presented. Only constructive comment was that the staff were a little pushy to sell activities and tours.
Great place to just relax. Quiet and very private. Great food at the lodge. Tour to sosslevlei was well worth the money.
Excellent staff, service and location
What a sight after a long drive! The thatched hut was very cosy, nice and warm, something I desperately needed for my last night in Namibia. The food was mouth-watering, especially the starters (smoked salmon and prawns - IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DESERT - WOW)!! I just wish their parking bays were closer to the huts.
Fantastic view, especially at sunset. Excellent food. Great location (~30 minutes from the entrance of Sossusvlei park)
Well sited location for Sossusvlei, about 20 mins to gate. Good view from the room which was comfortable with ceiling fan to keep cool. Meals were good as was the service. A pleasant stay overall.
This is a very good lodge in an excellent location. Staff were very good and the food was well presented and good. Horses very well schooled and anyone nervous or new to riding would have absolutely no problems here.
Very good place, excellent service, nice people. Air condition in the room would be better than the ventilator
OK. Would suggest the staff need better training. Also I think it would be better for them to do some basic, nutritious food well rather than trying to do `pretty` European style food not very well at all.
Nice accommodation, good food.
Very nice establishment and setting. No aircon, but had a ceiling fan and didn`t have an issue at night with open windows. It`s a bit further out from the Sossusvlei gate, so wouldn`t recommend it for serious photographers - they should probably stay in the Sossusvlei park to get the hour head start on the day.
great property, friendly staff, nice view, sometimes a little bit dirty (e.x. the pool smells unnatural, a lot of ants in the room, ...)
Awesome accommodation...great food and service...for horse riding they might benefit by having more helmets for beginner riders.
very nice but rooms had no screens, so one chooses between bugs or hot room
Very nice staff, most beautiful place! But it would be nice with cheaper (or smaller) alternatives when it comes to the food (meals).
Beautiful lodge, descent food, but needs a few improvements. They were out of soap while we were there and they also need screens in their windows. We were eaten alive by mosquitos.
One of our favourites! What a place and what a view! And such a professional yet friendly staff.
excellent location, very friendly staff, good food.
Despite the lodge is 40 km from sossusvlei, we were glad to stay there as the location is great. Wonderful views in the morning and evening. Food is fine and horse-riding is also great. Very friendly staff
Maybe the best lodge we stayed in, wonderful view at sunset
it was OK but probably the less convincing accomodation of the whole trip. The service was sometimes good and sometimes not so good and we expected more from the horseride. Vote 6/10
long way from Soussussvlei - small but cosy
Beautiful location, lovely rooms. Riding afternoon into the desert is wonderful...
Nice place to stay. Great meals. Friendly staff.
excelent, to far from the Park
This was my least favorite, but it was nice. It was not very close to Sossusvlei and it was quite expensive. We had better food in Swakopmund and Okaukuejo and less expensive.
A very nice stay and lovely staff, but it looks like it needs a good scrub in some places. Plenty of staff but very leisurely about the upkeep of the place.
the best of the accomodation by far. Most amazing staff, great tour to sossusvlei with a guide called Seven. to be recommended
We loved Desert Homestead. It was friendly, beautifully located and the perfect start to our Namibian adventure. The view from our beautifully natural and simple room was spectacular. Recommend the tour to Sossusvlei - was more meaningful with the Lodge`s guide than if we`d self driven.
loved it here....the architecture of the chalets, the setting, the lodge, the friendliness of the staff...a recommendation, the staff could improve in areas of service, for example at the pool many guests struggled to put up umbrellas, there were dirty dishes around, and many staff members hanging around and could readily assist, just not knowing that this would be a good thing to do..also serving drinks poolside would be good
Great place, I highly recommend it!
We weren`t quite sure on our arrival here as the guy that greeted us didn\'t seem to know about the activities and couldn`t find a key for our room for ages. But after that we have a brilliant time. It was really reaxed and friendly. Our guide to Sossusvlei was absolutely excellent - Seven. We also went horse riding which was fabulous and Robin our guide was just lovely. This was like a home from home kind of place. And we liked all the reading materials and games they had to keep us entertained.
Nice and friendly staff, nice place, great location, good quality and good price
Staff here were extremely friendly. Only problem, was room being quite hot without air conditioner. However, with windows open and mosquito net down it was okay.
Lovely isolated setting. It was a little far from Sossusvlei, but that is a minor complaint. Seven, our guide to the dunes, was excellent and knolwedgeable.
Lovely place and very good service
Horse riding first class. Food indifferent.
The location is really nice and staff is ok. Dinner was very good.
An excellent venue. Really enjoyed it. They did mess up one morning when the staff were supposed to give us an early morning wake up call but they slept in! But apart from that the venue is great, great rooms, great staff, great food and service. Would highly recommend it.
Lovely, homely accommodation with great food.
Good staff and dinner. I didn`t understand why they don`t let pay children lunches half price us in every other place we stayed. good horse ride even if the guide is not so skilled
Great accomodation/food/service. Horse riding a highlight of our trip...recommend at least 2 hour ride. Location prevents dawn arrival at dunes. Breakfast in a bag a nice touch.
Even after the advertising photos, Desert Homestead was breathtaking in its physical beauty. The chalets and main lodge show a high level of attention to both interior and exterior design elements, creating a beautiful environment. On arrival, the staff offered a guided tour of Sossusvlei / Sesriem which I am so glad we booked. My family were the only ones on the tour, and our guide (Vili, or perhaps Philli - maybe short for Phillip?) was extremely knowledgeable and very sensitive to photo-taking. We got far more out of the tour than would have ever been possible if we had gone on our owm. We were surprised by the champagne breakfast at Sossusvlei itself. What a tasty surprise! In all, the half-day tour lasted a full 8 hours. The food and service at Desert Homestead were simply excellent. This lodge should be highly recommended.
It was clean, the meals were excellent and it was a great location.
The rooms are delightful with magnificent views across the plains to the mountains beyond. It was one of our best experiences. The paths are not as well-lit as they might be so a torch is a good idea.
Excellent food. Sunset horseride was great, but expensive
Strange atmosphere. Staff over-eager to create a personal feeling (shaking hands with everybody etc). All it left was a strange feeling.
At first this was a total shock to us. Theaccomodation Audrey had booked was a one room chalet with three beds for three adults.Thank goodness for Abel's calming and accomodating manner (we love him) he provided us with two chalets. He recognised the minute we arrived that it was not going to work. In spite of our intial reaction this proved to be a wonderful time and we love the people here. We felt part of a wonderful family and spent our time with them whenever we could.
i must admit the drive to desert homestead from windhoek was a bit more adventurous than i appreciated. The place itself was fantastic, people were really nice and helpful and I wish we had another day to spend there
The accommodation was really lovely and the staff were so friendly, it was really sad to leave there as everyone was just so nice. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone and the horse riding is a must!
Very good. Warm welcome and attention from staff.
Heaven. Simple, rustic luxury, with lovely friendly staff.
Very nice place, in a very nice location. The excursion to Sossousvlei was good but a little bit to expensive
A good lodge to stay at when visiting Sossusviei. The rooms and meals were excellent and the central lodge was a nice place to relax. The coffee and cake in the afternoon should not be missed.
A wonderful facility. Excellent rooms. Menu`s could have a slightly wider selection.
Nice lodge, value for money.
very friendly people, very well organised, very clean spot and staff very helpful
Amazing, had a beautiful time. The personnel were great. Very attentive to your needs. Enjoyed talking to the guides that new so much and were very helpful. We did the horse ride with a Champagne breakfast in the Desert. It was amazing! We had so much fun, we saw some wild animals. The horses were very well trained. We weren't expert riders but had no trouble. Would definetly go back!
Absolutly amazing place. We took a scenic drive which was great and lasted 8 hours. Great staff with our kid and beautiful accomodation. Special thanks to our guide: Ivan.
Excellent accomodation. However, due to special dietary requirements, we were very limited to what we could eat. I had to eat vegeetables for starters and main course as well!
Excellent service and location
The venue is stunning and the staff were really helpful and friendly. The only issue I had with this place is the food was really poor and there was no way to eat elsewhere easily. Also the tours offered were ridiculously expensive. Lucky I had my truck!
This was truly the most romantic, stunning, simplistic yet thought out place I have ever stayed in in my life. I plan to return on my honeymoon should I ever get married. :)
The place is nice and the food divine. Need maybe to do some activities inside the resort when you stay more than 2 days!!
Excellent service here in their relocated site.
We were very pleased with Desert Homestead. The staff were very friendly and efficient when required to be so. The lodge was clean and well looked after and the food was good. Our trip to Sossusvlei was made so much more interesting with the experienced guide. The only highcough was when we were paying our "extras" bill and there was a problem with the credit card machine which meant rather a long wait but it was resolved. We would recommend the Homestead to our friends.
Amazing place, we really loved it and the room was gorgeous!
Wonderful location. Stunning views across the plain! The horsey feeling here was also quite nice and very appropriate for the area. Very friendly staff.
Excellent. Staff were brilliant.
Excellent lodge, really enjoyed our stay. Convenient for the dunes (20 minutes by car).
very nice but comfort was so ad so... no plugs in the rooms (not possible to use hairdryer... not possible to charge digital equipment... we had to charge it on a common plug in the sitting room...). also food... not bad but lower than average level of the others position 8/10 restaurant 6/10 cleanliness of the rooms 6/10 comfort 6/10 politness 8/10
