We liked Camp Kwando. It was a quite busy but not unpleasantly so. The rooms were comfortable and the staff were very friendly and engaging. The bar / restaurant area was attractive and interestingly decorated. On the down side, there was only limited space around the swimming pool and very few sun-loungers, particularly given the size of the camp. The sundowner boat trip was very good with plenty of riverine wildlife and a lively, knowledgeable guide. We had an unidentified rodent gnawing away in our room at night - welcome to Africa!
It was ok, but to big, too many people
A beautiful spot, good facilities, pleasant staff and excellent boat trip.
Excellent facilities and very welcoming.
Good rooms and service. A pity that some rooms don't have a clear view of the river, but looking into the trees
Lovely campsite. Only problem was the lights were left on in the toilet and bathroom the whole night so lots of bugs. Lovely pool to swim in as well. We were there only for 1 night so really didn't get time to explore. Will go back again.
Kwando was okay, the location superb for wildlife viewing. The head staff were more interested in their mobile phones than guests. Gave the feeling they were over tourists.
Nice lodge, friendly staff, interesting to do the Mudumu game drive with them. Small bungalows on the river side were really small ( other travelers advice) but the tree houses are really great! Beautiful songs at diner by the cookers and waitresses.
We did NOT like this place at all!!! It was the worst accomodation where we have stayed in during our trip. NO AIRCO ! NO FRIDGE in the room! We would not go back there ! The Kwando river is a rather small river. No animals around the camp. It was very hot there. When you arrive at the camp, you do not know where to go. I think, there are three parkings. You cannot park the car near your accomodation. You have to walk at least almost 100 meters with your luggage and bags towards your accomodation. Small swimming pool (with five people in it, it was full when we arrived). Even in the evening, the restaurant is a very hot place to have dinner. One good thing: the lodge did some laundry for us for free !!! And we also got stuck in the sand of MUDUMU NP, which was a litlle bit further. I had to walk more than five kilometers to seek for help - with wild animals around me - in a temperature of 39 degrees (my wife stayed all the time alone in the car). After more than an hour walking, I saw the first other people...
great atmosphere, enjoyed the local village tour
very nice camp, good food and they were excellent with my 2 year old who loved the staff there
Nice place to camp with lots of shade and easy access to Mudumu NP.
Charming place with great views.
It was OK overall.
Bad price regarding the quality of service and accommodation. Bad manager!
Our biggest problem. This was our last stop before Botswana and we had planned to eat here as we knew we couldnt take food over the border. We arrived at 13:20 but were told no lunches were left, we couldnt have dinner there, and the boat trip was full. Eventually they did find some food for my husband but told me they couldnt provide anything as I am vegetarian, not even a sandwich. However we saw them bring out sandwiches and chips to another guest. It transpired after speaking to the manager that he would accomodate the lodge guests but make no effort for the campers, despite us being 1 or 2 campers that night. We found him very awkward to deal with and inflexible. The nearest other lodge is about 25 miles away or we would have left. Other people booking this site need to be aware that campers are very much second class citizens and should not rely on getting any trips or meals here. Such a shame as this was the only negative thing during our whole stay.
I wish, we would have stayed at Camp Kwando for two nights. I love the houses at the Riverside. The privacy! Camp Kwando is very lovely situated. Nice and helpful People, also at Fiume lodge and Kaisosi River Lodge. Fiume Lodge and KAisosi River Lodge is ok for 1 night.
A bit disappointing compared to the area and animals at other places
Fantastic riverfront restaurant/bar area and very spacious and originally decorated private campsites.
Location is superb and the chalet near the river are very nice. The only problem is that the chalets have not a proper door and the bathroom too, so it`s very cold in winter time. Ask for chalet n°7 same charme but warmer.Good value for mokoro and boat trip. Excellent food and staff at the receptionvery very helpfull.
Lovely camp, enjoyed our stay! They could improve their electric/solar supply - no lights during the night/early am when visiting bathrooms or leaving camp can be a problem, unless you have your own lights.
Lodge was OK. Drives and Tours are very good.
Very good. The gravel road to the camp is being upgraded to tarmac and the temporary road is fairy difficult but the new road should be finished by Christmas 2013
Bit of anti climax. Smell of sewer. Boat trip long and take 1 hour to get to game reserve. Game trip to Mudumu very good.
Needless to say, everyone was thrilled with the tree houses. Gary and I actually missed the tents we stayed in last time, seemed a little closer to nature, but perhaps that was just because we had close encounters with hippos and didn`t see any this time. The tree houses, there is no doubt, are absolutely gorgeously designed with great views over Botswana. Food very good. All staff totally delightful, same guide for game drive (Nelson)as last time. Game disappointing, but those are the breaks - nobody was told it was a zoo!
Beautiful place! Very friendly, helpful and funny staff! We took a mokoro trip which was wonderful and learnt a lot about the traditional ways.
Again a good choice. River trip a highlight...went twice.
We cannot recommend Camp Kwando too highly. Not only was the accommodation extremely comfortable, but the food was exceptional, imaginative, and beautifully presented, with care taken to meet special food requirements. The guides, who were knowledgable and friendly, were excellent at spotting wildlife and in describing the local fauna. Hippos also visited our chalets at night - who more could one want from a night in the African bush?!
What a oasis of friendly staff, lovely food and absolute majestic nature.....Will definitely return..and recommend
This accomodation is very nice. The location is great, and the common areas (such as the restaurant or the bar) are beautiful. The food was very good. The chalet was also very nice (especially the bathroom :). Only `not so nice` comment is that the chalet did not have a `proper` door (it was only a mosquito net) and therefore when we woke up, the room was very cold!
Very nice. big sevice. perfect restaurant. Big service of the owner and his family. the lodges were loveley situated on the river.
Just a short feedback on Camp Kwando. The tree top rooms where fantastic. Only note, for that price I would have expected a better reception service. They were nice but really a bit rushed. Also there was no help provided with the luggage. Considering the price and also the quality of the rooms, the service lagged behind a bit. For the rest everything was fine.
Camp Kwando was beautifull, the staff sometimes a bit too laidback. The food was incredible good. We booked a private campsite which was nice, but I wouldnt do that the next time.
