Apart from the two day Sweet Thorn Trail, Daan Viljoen also offers two shorter day hikes. The 3km Wag-'n-Bietjie Trail is named after a local thorn tree; the thorns of which hook on to your clothes and make you "wait a while" - the translation of the Afrikaans Wag 'n bietjie. This hiking trail allows you to see many of the parks animals close up.
The alternative, and slightly more strenuous Roobois Trail is a great way to spend the day (about 9km). Keep a good look out for the trail markers as hikers often get a bit lost, this is generally not a problem as you will safely arrive at the main gate, and easily find your way back to the office. A special feature of Daan Viljoen are the rare mountain Zebra which are sometimes seen on this trail.
Daan Viljoen Game Park is around 20km from Windhoek and is a pleasant area to spend a day enjoying nature. If you would like to learn more about the fauna and flora of the area we can arrange for a guide to accompany you for the day
