These hikes present alternatives to the Fish River Hiking Trail and are suitable for people who are not able to get bookings for the main hike or who would prefer a less strenuous or shorter hike in the Fish River Canyon. These hikes are not a compromise when it comes to scenery as the views are as stunning as those on the main hike and actually offer more diverse scenery as they do not only follow the Fish River Canyon, but also meander across the surrounding countryside and Lowen River. If you would prefer a guided Fish River Trail Hike we now have that on offer.
These hikes are situated on privately owned farm land. One great benefit of these hikes is their circular nature, which returns you to the Fish River Lodge, this means you will not have the problems associated with transport on the main Fish River Canyon Hike. There is daily transport from Windhoek to Keetmanshoop and from Keetmanshop it is possible (but expensive) to organise a transfer to the lodge.
5 DAY HIKE
This trail covers a length of 85km in an interesting, untouched part of the Fish River Canyon. It is characterised by narrow, deep ravines, an abundance of animals, birds and drinkable water. South African Hiking Clubs rate the trail as medium to difficult. We recommend that only very fit persons attempt this trail. Group sizes : 3-20 per day.
3 DAY HIKE
The shorter 3 day hike (47km) will be ideal for the medium-fit. Groups of 2 - 20 people are allowed per day.
2 DAY HIKE
This 34km long option can be done by groups of 2-20 hikers.
