Introduction: Lesser moorhens (Gallinula angulata) are common at wetlands with dense, growing grass, as well as permanent freshwater wetlands such as swamps and marshes. Here they can keep to cover in line with their shy nature.
Distribution: Etosha, Caprivi, central Namibia including Windhoek.
Diet: Forages whilst walking at water's edge, on mud or floating water lilies for small beetles, insects, seeds and flowers of reeds and termites.
Description: Medium-sized, long-winged rail with a short, stout bill. Gallinula is Latin for 'a small hen.'
Breeding: Between 4 and 9 eggs are laid in a shallow cup built of bent over grass.
Size: 23cm. Weight: 150g.
