Introduction: Red-faced cisticolas (Cisticola erythrops) are usually observed singly, in pairs, or small family groups in along steams and rivers and in marshes. They also inhabit edges of reedbeds and along riverbanks with bushwillow a favourite. Expect to hear rather than see this species.

Distribution: Along the Linyanti Marshes in the Caprivi Strip and the Zambezi River.

Diet: Insects that are found in low undergrowth, such as beetles, ants, caterpillars and bluebottles are eaten.

Description: Pale olive-grey upperparts and wings. Silky white throat, chin and middle of belly. Has a varied repertoire of ringing notes that can reach a loud crescendo.

Breeding: A leaf and dry grass nest is lined with plant down. Females lay 2 to 4 eggs in December, incubated for up to 16 days.

Size: 14cm. Weight: 14g.
