Introduction: Shy albatross (Thalassarche cauta) can be observed on the continental shelf waters, usually closer to the Namibian shoreline than most other albatrosses. Singly or in pairs for the majority of the time, they congregate in greater numbers when in close proximity of trawlers.
Distribution Fairly common off the coast from Luderitz to Cape Cross.
Diet: Surface-dives for sardines, herrings, mackerel, crustaceans and squid.
Description The largest albatross from this family. White head and body, grey back, white rump. Has an 'inappropriate' reputation for being shy at sea.
Breeding: Extralimital.
Size: 100cm. Weight: 4.4kg. Wingspan: 2.5m.
