Introduction: Swamp boubous (Laniarius bicolor) are restricted to waterways such as major river floodplains with tall reedbeds, water figs, papyrus and other dense riverine vegetation found in the region. Ornithologists can observe them perching in the open for short periods or leaping between branches, turning their heads in search of prey.
Distribution: Northern Namibia only. Epupa Falls and from Rundu extending east through the Caprivi Strip to Victoria Falls. Common in Chobe/Zambezi River systems, the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve.
Diet: Gleans prey from tree trunks, reeds, papyrus, branches and forages on the ground for mainly insects and small fruits.
Description: Glossy blue black upper parts. Black bill, dark brown eyes and bluish-grey legs and feet.
Breeding: Usually only 2 eggs are laid between June and November in a loosely woven, shallow bowl of twigs and roots.
Size: 25cm. Weight: 53g.
