Introduction: Whinchats (Saxicola rubetra) dwell amongst stones (Saxicola) in open ground with bare patches with perching opportunities, such as scattered bushes or trees.
Distribution: Vagrant to Namibia with sightings confined to possibly Mahango National Park and inland not far from Swakopmund on the Khan River.Diet: Eats ants, beetles and bugs, grasshoppers, butterflies, moths, millipedes, centipedes, spiders, earthworms and snails. Also takes seeds.
Description: A small chat with a short, square tail. Other features include a distinctive white patch on the inner wing coverts and and a mainly black and white plumage. Rubetra refers to the reddish throat and breast colouration.Breeding: Extralimital.
Size: 13cm. Weight: 14g.
