Hotel Zum Grünen Kranze
Karibib | Namibia
Six hotels were built in Karibib during the German colonial period. The Hotel Zum Grünen Kranze was owned by Mrs. Luise Göpper and operated as a hotel until 1949 when it was converted into a bakery. The current shop uses the living quarters for the bakery management and staff.
The Official Gazette claimed that:
'This property, including the old buildings thereon, forms part of the historical core of Karibib, namely the Altstadt area. The building concerned are predominately in the German colonial building style and form an integral part of the architectural street scene of Main Street, the oldest street in the township'.
The front of the building is adorned with a set of unusual pillars with connecting arches that meet a low stoep wall. Some of the original interior furnishings were imported from as far away as Canada.
The Hotel Zum Grünen Kranze, Karibib was proclaimed a national monument on 15th May 1986.
One of our favourite lodges in Namibia - excellent accommodation, food and beautiful surroundings make for an enjoyable and relaxing stay.
Situated at the foot of the Hohenstein mountain, this lodge offers many hiking and climbing opportunities. It is also well situated to visit the Spitzkoppe Mountain.
Specialising in family holidays and horse riding, Okomitundu offers plenty of activities
