| The Namib-Naukluft Park is divided into four section: Sesriem and Sossusvlei - The highest sand dunes in the world, in the Namib Desert. The Naukluft - a mountainous area The Namib Section - between the Kuiseb and Swakop Rivers, home to the Welwitschia Trail Sandwich Harbour - a natural lagoon Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei Camping for Sossusvlei, the sand dunes, is only available at Sesriem. Sesriem is 63 km from Sossusvlei with the last 4km through the dunes only accessible by four wheel drive vehicles. There are no bungalows at Sesriem, but accommodation is available at private lodges and hotels near Sesriem. The best time to see the sand dunes at Sossusvlei is early in the morning, and this is only possible if you are camping at Sesriem (one private lodge can also offer sunrise in the dunes, email us for details) Rates and detailed information for Sesriem Campsite can be found by visiting the link |

Camping is available either at the community based camping site, or at Kudu's Rus camp site. There are two short day hikes in the area: the 10km Olive Trail and the longer 17km Waterkloof Trail. Close to the camp are natural rock pools which provide an idyllic spot to spend a day or two.
There is also an eight day, 120 km hiking trail, or a shorter 4 day trail, which is open from 1 March until the third Friday in October. Camping facilities and water are available at overnight stops. Group size 3-12 people. The Naukluft hiking Trail costs N$100 per person and includes accommodation in the old farmhouse at Naukluft for the nights before and after the Hike. Bookings must be made in advance.
For the Four Wheel Drive enthusiast, the area presents the Naukluft Four Wheel Drive Trail This self guided trail is 73km long and can be completed in 2 days. Groups may not be bigger than 16 people or consist of more than 4 vehicles (N$220 per car).

Camping sites are available at Kuiseb Bridge, Mirabib, Homeb, Kriess-se-Rus, Vogelfederberg, Bloedkoppie, Tinkas and Ganab. There are no facilities at these campsites. Permits are required for camping in these areas. Motorists can also visit the Welwitschia Trail this self-guided trail visits the moon landscape and the great Welwitschia plants. A permit for the Welwitschia trail can be obtained from the Swakopmund resorts office in Bismarck Street.
