Amani Lodge
Lodge accommodation and big cats close to Windhoek
Situated 20kms south-west of Windhoek, Amani Lodge is entirely surrounded by the Namibian veld and the wonderful Khomas Hochland Mountains, which offer spectacular 360° views. Set at an altitude of 2150 meters, it is the highest lodge in Namibia. This is an ideal destination for those last few nights of a Namibian self-drive tour, with easy access to the bright lights and amenities of the capital city, whilst within a tranquil, bush environment.
Due to its French owners' passion for Africa's big cats and stargazing, Amani has developed into a home to number of cheetah, lion and leopard. It offers a home and rehabilitation centre to orphaned and sick animals, with the aim to rehabilitate and then re-introduce them into the wild at the earliest opportunity.
For casual stargazers and serious astronomers alike, the lodge has its own observatory building, the Capella Observatory. It's claim to fame is that it has the largest amateur telescope in Africa! Stargazing is exclusively available for guests staying at Amani Lodge, who have a chance to see 'where no man has gone before.'
The main house with a spacious open-sided lapa, boasts a large patio and an outdoor swimming pool. There is a breakfast area, a bar, and a restaurant that serves international cuisine, with a French touch of course! The male lion's roar at supper time, adds to the atmosphere and it is possible to view cheetah through the dining room windows! The lodge's restaurant is open to day visitors for Sunday lunch. Small weddings of between 20 to 25 people, and conferences of 12 to 14 people can also be hosted here.
Accommodation at Amani Lodge, is in a combination of 3 bungalows and 3 double suites, for up to a maximum of 12/14 persons at a time. Each room is tastefully decorated in a French style, with an en-suite bathroom, and great views over the surrounding landscape.
Activities here include lion feeding, where guests are taken to a viewing stand, visits to Namibia's capital city, Windhoek, hiking in the mountain environment, stargazing at the Federations Starfleet during the winter months when the sky is clearest, nature walks and bird watching.
