Camelthorn Kalahari Lodge
Accommodation in Southern Namibia
Camelthorn Kalahari Lodge is situated north of Mariental on The Intu Afrika Kalahari Private Game Reserve. The reserve is a 10,000ha wildlife sanctuary, located in the south-western region of the Kalahari Desert along the upper reaches of the Auob river system of Namibia. The lodge is set in a secluded valley between two red Kalahari dunes, and nestled amongst camelthorn trees.
The ambiance of this lodge is distinctly Bushman, enhanced with indigenous decor and home to a fine collection of San artifacts, one of the oldest cultures in the world.
Camelthorn Lodge consists of a thatched main building, outdoor dining area, bar and a boma overlooking a natural stone pool. There are 12 double en-suite chalets, all with air-conditioning and viewing decks. Hair dryers and a laundry service are also available.
This area offers guests the opportunity learn about a predator re-introduction programme, the Kalahari Lion Project. An opportunity to take a walk in the Kalahari with a bushman tracker to discover their desert survival techniques, and to learn some of the history of the ancient San people, is also a possibility. Guests can explore the Kalahari in open 4x4 vehicles.
Camelthorn Lodge is child friendly and there is a nearby landing strip, with transfers to and from the lodge for their guests.

Directions:
From Windhoek head south on the B1 to Rehoboth and then continue towards the settlement of Kalkrand. Before reaching Kalkrand turn left on C21 for 48 km and then turn onto D1268 for 22km. The Intu Afrika Game Reserve entrance gate on your right - follow the signs to the Camelthorn Lodge

Excellent lodge in the Kalahari Desert, offers accommodation in units made of straw bales or wood. Bagatelle proves to be consistently popular with guests
Really only suitable for fisherman - until renovations happen it is probably best not to subject yourself to this.
Tends to cater for larger groups, but the low rates make it attractive for those looking to save some money.
The meerkat or suricate is a small mammal which inhabits the Kalahari - we do not know why this lodge is named after them. Perhaps if you stay here and find out you can tell us and then we can make this slightly more descriptive.
The third lodge on the Intu Afrika Kalahari Game Reserve (along with Suricate & Camethorn Lodges). The Kalahari is absolutely magnificent and really should be a part of any visit to Namibia.
