Orange river - Namibia
Camp Provenance is situated in southern Namibia on the banks of the Orange River. It's location close to the border post of Noordoewer, (there is another crossing at Sendelingsdrift) makes it an ideal stopover between Namibia and South Africa.
Excellent meals are served at the Orange River Restaurant, in both indoor and outdoor dining areas. The hillside location is a perfect setting for enjoying your meal, and drinks from the river bar complement the occasion, all whilst admiring the going's on of the riverine environment. This great little setting is just right for recovering from your canoe trip, shooting some pool or exchanging some white-water rafting adventures!
For those travellers who like to keep in touch with loved ones back home or who wish to keep up with world events, then the Internet Café is just the job! It has 6 work-stations and a 'solid' Internet connection. Branded items of clothing, curio's and memento's can be purchased from the Orange River Shop, as can a selection of groceries and cool drinks!
The camp has a variety of lodgings including standard and family Cabanas, permanently erected tents and a Honeymoon Suite, suiting a range of budgets and tastes:
- 17 Standard Cabana’s: Decorated in traditional African style, each unit affords magnificent views of the Orange river. These sleep 2 people in each, on either a twin or a double bed. En-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, tea/coffee station and a fitted cupboard are standard. The first 10 cabana's are situated on the river banks. Linen and towels are supplied.
- 2 Family Cabana's: Each family cabana sleeps 4 persons, 2 people in 2 rooms. These units come complete with a central en-suite bathroom and air-conditioning, with magnificent views of the Orange River surrounds!
- Standard tents: Although not quite as comfortable or well-equipped as the Cabanas, the 10 standard tents at Camp Provenance offer a reasonable level of comfort. The tents sleep 2 people each, and towels and linen are provided and guests can walk-in through a canvas porch.
- Honeymoon suite: For a romantic getaway, there is the stylish and luxury Honeymoon Suite. It has an elegantly designed bathroom, with air-conditioning, a fan and mini-bar. The extra-length Queen sized bed, complete with 100% cotton percale linen, complements the heart warming appeal of the suite. Relax in the comfortable lounge area and the sliding doors open up to some spectacular views of the Orange River. Clean towels are provided and your room is serviced is daily. Please note that this suite is not designed for more than 2 guests.
- Canoeing
- The trip is 5 days away from home, 1.5 days self drive and 3.5 days on river. Noordoewer, Richtersveld area - Namibia, approx. 125km North of Springbok, 680km from Cape Town. We supply all canoeing equipment, ie. 2 man Mohawk canoes, paddles and life jackets. Experienced guides will accompany you providing catering, safety and assistance. All catering on the Orange river is handled by our guides and included in the overall price are breakfasts, lunches and suppers, which are all five star meals. Liquor and soft drinks are however not included in the package. Glass bottles are not allowed on the Orange river for conservation reasons, so please decant into plastic bottles or bring cans. We also supply buckets to keep all your clothes, cameras etc. dry and provide cooler boxes for drinks.
Directions:
Turn from the highway towards the Camel Lodge Motel. Just before the motel turn right onto the tar road for 5kms.This leads onto a gravel road. Travel along this gravel road for 4,5kms until you see the Felix Unite sign and gates on the left side of the road. Turn left and proceed to camp "Provenance".
