iGowati Lodge
Damaraland - Namibia
iGowati Lodge is situated in Khorixas, (named after the Khori bush, Salvadora persica) and is an ideal base to explore the wonders of Damaraland, including Twyfelfontein, the Petrified Forest, the Organ Pipes, Vingerklip, The White Lady rock painting. In the Damara language, iGowati means 'desert dunes.'
The thatched lodge been decorated in the colors of the Namib desert, and it houses the restaurant and bar, (with satellite TV) a curio shop and an internet facility. There is safe parking and 24hr gate security. A safe is available in the office to lock up valuables, and children of all ages are welcome. The swimming pool is a much visited venue, especially on those hot, Namibian afternoons.
Their restaurant offers an 'a la-carte' menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and buffet style meals are served for groups of 10 or more. The bar is open throughout the day. On some nights the Aba’s Khab traditional dance group are in house to entertain their guests, and Mr. Michael Doeseb a local cultural historian, is at hand most evenings to share some interesting facts about the Damara people and their traditions.
Accommodation is in 29 en-suite rooms, with a combination of baths or showers. They are all equipped with a fan, telephone, tea/coffee station, mini-bar and a fridge. Some of the rooms have mosquito nets.
Activities revolve around self-drive trips to all of the main attractions of Damaraland. Although the does not offer guided activities, general information is freely and readily available, and lunch packs and soft drinks can be provided on request.
A slightly more unusual and fun day is a (pre-booked) donkey cart trip through the town of Khorixas, just as the Damara people used to travel. (And some still do!) The journey stops at a local shebeen for a drink or two and a taste of some of the local delicacies, such as Mopane worm. There is a strong emphasis on interacting with the Damara people, before returning to iGowati Lodge for perhaps a more familiar tipple!

Situated in the town of Khorixas, this lodge may not have the most scenic setting but offers good accommodation at reasonable prices

One of the most luxurious lodges in the area - accommodation is in luxury tents or more 'solid' suites.

As the name implies this is situated close to the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. A good quality lodge with reasonable rates.

The Vingerklip is a 35m high finger like rock structure - this lodge has two swimming pools and apart from being close to Vingerklip is in close proximity to Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain, Petrified Forest and other wonders of Damaraland
