khowarib Lodge

north-west Namibia

Khowarib Lodge is situated approximately 10km from Sesfontein, only 1km off the main track towards Palmwag, and to the east of the Khowarib Settlement. It is nestled on the banks of the Hoanib River in the spectacular Khowarib Gorge.

Set on the limits of Kaokoland, this lodge has been described as 'the perfect jumping-off point' to explore the remote and rugged territories of north-west Namibia. It is an ideal destination for an expedition to track desert-adapted elephant and black rhino.

The main lodge consists of a reception area, guest lounge, bar, dining area and curio shop. The centre piece of the complex is a 'lapa', an enormous thatched structure with great views of the surrounding environment. There is a laundry service, secure parking and a curio shop and an Internet facility at reception, (but not with wireless connection). The swimming pool is expected to be completed by the end of April 2010.

Meals can be ordered from a set menu, but a buffet-style system is introduced for larger groups or when the lodge is fully-booked.

Accommodation at Khowarib Lodge is in 12 double rooms and 2 family tents. Both double and family units have either twin or double sleeping systems, built on stilts. En-suite bathrooms, tall floor fans, an in-room safe, and mosquito netting on the windows and doors are standard. Two of the tents are wheelchair friendly.

The family units are slightly larger than the double rooms and are fitted with an extra bed. The facilities are the same as the double rooms. Children of all ages are welcome at Khowarib Lodge.
