Koiimasis Ranch
Tiras Mountains - southern Namibia
Situated 280kms from Sossusvlei (approx 4hr drive) and 260kms from Luderitz (approx 3hr drive) in the midst of the Tiras mountains, and on the edge of the Namib desert is the Koiimasis Ranch. It is surrounded by red shining granite rocks and is undoubtedly one of the best places to relax for a few days, when travelling between the sand dunes and coastal town. The name 'Koiimasis' comes from the San Bushmen and means 'meeting point.'
This is a working farm, with access to the ranch's business. It offers basic, rustic but comfortable lodgings. Dinner is the only meal provided here and reservations have to be made on arrival. Drinks are served with the meal. (There is no bar.) Coffee/cake are served in the afternoon on request. There is a swimming pool and secure parking.
Accommodation is in the following:
- Fest Inn Fels – 4 (farm) rooms. 1 x triple, 1 x family and 2 x double rooms.
- Shwaibennest – a self-catering unit, (with basic facilities) for 2 people. (Min 2 nights.)
- The chalet Virosa – a basic (2 x bed) room.
All of the rooms have an en-suite bathroom and even though it is not a malaria area, mosquito netting is fitted to the windows.
The local landscape varies from desert to quiver tree forest, and can be explored by vehicle or on foot. Activities include guided horseback tours, (saddles, helmets, guides included), guided and unguided, marked and unmarked, walking trails, bird watching and night drives to catch a glimpse of the smaller animals.
A trail in and around the ranch, will take guests to the ostrich farm and (hobby) parrot breeding cages.
End the day with a beautiful Namibian sunset, followed by star-gazing into the clear skies at Koiimasis Ranch.

The completely off his rocker 'Baron' von Wolf built this castle in the middle of nowhere. Rumours abound about this gun toting, cross dressing loon - the campsite is not as interesting!
Helmeringhausen consists on not more than a hotel, a petrol station and an agricultural museum. Luckily the hotel is a good one, with friendly owners.
Situated in the Tiras mountains, an owner run guest farm that offers a warm welcome and even better scenery
A small reasonably priced guest farm - geologists are sure to enjoy the abandoned copper mine
