Tsumeb - Namibia
Set in the heart of the northern Namibian town of Tsumeb is the recently opened Kupferquelle Resort. This exciting new establishment is ideal for individual travellers, families and the business community alike, as well as though who fancy a spot of self-catering. It is the perfect stopover destination to visit Namibia's famous Etosha National Park via the Van Lindequist Gate (107km). Besides being the closest town to Etosha, Tsumeb also serves as the gateway to northern Namibia and Owamboland.
Many self-drive tourists venture on to the Caprivi Strip and on to the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and Victoria Falls from Tsumeb. Kupferquelle is a German name meaning 'Copper Fountain' referring to the rich copper deposits of this former mining town.
There are a number of shops and banks as well as an outdoor market on the outskirts of the town. The name Tsumeb is taken from the San word tsoumsoub (to dig in loose ground) and the Herero word otjisume (place of frogs). The region is also famous for more than 200 different minerals and gemstones found in the area.
Facilities at Kupferquelle include a 'sizzling steakhouse' restaurant with terrace and 1 of only 3 Olympic-sized swimming pools in the country, complete with 8 x 50m lanes. Other amenities include a bar with TV, Internet café and a convenience shop. There are 40 Double or Luxury Chalets:
