Lagoon Lodge

Accommodation in Walvis Bay - Namibia

The French owned Lagoon Lodge, has a great setting right beside the Walvis Bay Lagoon. The lagoon is the main attraction of the area, and is regarded as the most important wetland for coastal birds in Southern Africa. Because of it's location, there is a wide variety of marine birds here, including large flocks of flamingos, and is a great favourite for bird-watchers.

As there are a variety of seafood and other restaurants within 5 minutes drive or a brisk 15 min walk of the lodge, they only serve (a very generous and tasty) breakfast. Many guest comment on how their lively French hosts, Hélène and Wilfried, go out of their way to make a visit here great fun. They are both artists, and the rooms are furnished with amazing wood and textile pieces, created by them both.

Accommodation is in 8, individually decorated rooms. They are a combination of single, double and family rooms. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and is equipped with a TV, telephone, mini-bar, tea/coffee station and an in-room safe. Guests can chill out and enjoy the magnificent views of the lagoon from their private balcony or a verandah, at ease on a comfortable wicker chair.

Set in the hotel's beautiful garden, and at the back of the main building, is a swimming pool. It comes complete with lazy-loungers and sun-shades, for guests to relax and laze around in.

There is also a roof deck. It is a wonderful place to enjoy the breathtaking views of the lagoon and the dunes, whilst drinking a sundowner!

Thousands of lesser and greater flamingos, as well as white pelicans, plover, avocet, turnstone and a huge variety of waders, gather in the lagoon. Several endemic species, such as the dune lark and the Damara tern are also in the vicinity.

Visitors may want to join some of Walvis bays numerous activities or visit the Swakopmund and its museum, the Namibian Minerals Museum, the Crystal Gallery, the Welwitschia plain and Moonlandscape and the desert of the Topnaars. (Homeb and Gobabeb)
