Lianshulu Lodge
Caprivi - Namibia
Lianshulu Lodge is set on the banks of the meandering Kwando River, within the lush Mudumu National Park, of the Caprivi region in Namibia. With the mysterious Okavango River to the west and the mighty Zambezi River to the east, this luxury lodge nestles beneath a canopy of shady Jackalberry and Mangosteen trees.
The airy thatched dining, lounge and bar areas, library and curio shop have been built using local craftsmen and natural materials. They open out onto spacious, split-level wooden decks, affording sweeping views over the Lianshulu Lagoon. A huge variety of wildlife can often be observed and photographed from these excellent, purpose built, vantage points.
Guests will appreciate either of the 2 fireplaces, especially as those cold winter nights draw in. There is also a secluded swimming pool, positioned to create that idyllic spot, in which to relax and appreciate the tranquility of the natural environment.
Lianshulu Lodge is renown for its superb kitchen fare, which is overseen by a professional chef. Sumptuous meals include buffet breakfast and lunches, and a set 3 course candlelit dinner. Coffee and liqueurs, served around an inviting fire, complete the day. The lodge is powered by a combination of generator and solar energy.
Accommodation at Lianshulu Lodge is 9 twin rooms and 1 family room, which can house 4 people. Each room is individually styled and tastefully furnished, and are made from a combination of reed, brick and thatch. Each has it's own an en-suite bathroom, mosquito nets and private, outside deck. The ample interval between the units, ensures complete privacy.
The Mudumu National Park has an abundant amount of wildlife, including buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and waterbuck. Elephant and hippo in particular can be found in great numbers. Predators are sometimes encountered, and around 400 bird species have been recorded in the East Caprivi. Crocodiles and fish such as bream, tigerfish and catfish can be seen from the lodge deck.
Activities include nature drives into the National Park and boat cruises along the Kwando River. Trips to the Lizauli Village can be organized, and visitors can witness the daily goings on of an authentic African home. Basket weaving, cooking, a visit to the witch doctor, and an up-date of local court cases, can all be experienced in this amazing habitat.
There is an airstrip 5mins drive away, for exclusive use of the Lianshulu's guests, where transfers to and from the lodge can be arranged. To facilitate easy access to Botswana, Lianshulu Lodge can be used as a border crossing to Botswana by boat, but only for it's guests.
