Mondjila Safari Camp is situated only 32km from Andersson's Gate, the western entrance to Namibia's most famous tourist attraction, Etosha National Park. Many self-drive tourists and small groups choose this safari camp as an ideal base to start or end tours to and from both Kaokoland and Damaraland, as well as exciting game viewing day trips into Etosha.
Mondjila is a saying of the local Herero people that means ' to be on your way somewhere' or 'to be on the road'. In modern times the road would lead to Etosha, a park of contrasts as seasons dramatically alter its vast open plains. It's name is taken from the white and greenish coloured pan that is 'the great white place of water'.
This vast 20,000km² fabled wildlife garden, is a haven for over 114 species of Namibian mammals, 340 species of bird, 16 reptile and amphibians, 1 fish (the catfish, seasonal) and a huge variety of insects. The large selection of plains game includes elephant, giraffe, Burchell's zebra, springbok, red hartebeest, blue wildebeest, gemsbok, eland, kudu, roan and ostrich. Lurking not too far behind are predators such as lion and hyena.
The main building has a restaurant, bar and a guest lounge. There is an outside boma and open-fire pit, great venues for evening conversation, sipping night-caps and gazing at the beautiful Namibian night skies. Local artefacts can be bought from the curio shop. There is a laundry service, Internet connection and secure parking at Mondjila.
The accommodation consists of 11 luxury safari tents,raised on stone patchwork concrete bases. En-suite bathrooms, twin beds, a fan and mosquito nets are standard. Each unit has a table and 2 chairs on the small verandah with great views of the immediate countryside.
- Etosha National Park
- Although there are organized tours to Etosha National Park from the camp, self-drive tourists usually use Mondjila as their base camp for day trips. The short distance to the entrance is in no way a disadvantage for those early morning game drives, and plenty of game can be viewed on the way in to, and at Okaukuejo Camp.
Just after sunrise (and sunset) elephant often gather to drink, with many herds in close proximity to each other. It is also a marked peak in 'audible elephant calls', a gathering of communities, communicating. Game driving along the rim of the pan to Halali Camp in time for lunch and an afternoon swim is an option, before searching for wildlife activity around Eland Drive and Rhino Drive on your return journey - Farm drive

- There is a short self-guided walking trail that starts and ends in the camp grounds. Some decent birding can done on the way, so binoculars and bird books at the ready!
Directions:
Take the C38 from Outjo to Etosha, after 70km turn right on the D2779, the Safari Camp is situated approximately 3km from this turnoff on your left hand side.

A mid market lodge, situated on the Ongava Private Reserve, just south of the Andersson entrance to Etosha.
On a small hill on the extreme western side of Etosha - Dolomite is the newest (and fifth camp) to open within the park boundries. It is a small personal lodge as opposed to the traditional resort feel of the other camps within the park.
