Moon Mountain Lodge
Lodges near Sossusvlei - Namibia
The 4-star Moon Mountain Lodge, (which opened late 2009) is situated reasonably close (50km) to Sesriem, the main entrance gate to the dunes. It is therefore ideally suited for a visit to the worlds highest dunes at Sossusvlei and then on to Sesriem Canyon.
Sossusvlei is home to the highest, most spectacular and beautiful dunes in the world. They have to be seen to be believed, and the energetic climb to the top can be rewarded with a fun run down! Sossusvlei, 'the gathering place of water', is more defined by the lack of it. It is a huge clay pan, enclosed by enormous mountains of sand that are home to barking geckos, sabre-horned gemsbok, and 'thermal dancing' lizards! Sossusvlei is the highlight of any trip to the Namib Desert!
Moon Mountain Lodge's striking environment makes it an ingenious location for wedding ceremonies and receptions. They can cater for up to 60 guests, with the lodge staff taking on the bulk of the arrangements, removing the usual pre-wedding dramas and anxieties.
Traditional cuisine is served from the lodge’s Nebula Restaurant, which offers seating for 46 people. Pre and after-dinner drinks can be ordered from the fully-licensed Cosmos Bar and enjoyed on the raised, adjoining sun deck. This is the perfect spot for watching a beautiful sunset, or star-gazing on a clear Namibian night. The same venue provides a sensational view of the petrified dunes of the Namib Desert.
Guest relaxation is a Moon Mountain Lodge priority, so therefore rooms are not fitted with televisions. The lodge does have, however, a small cinema, complete with large flat screen TV, surround sound system, DVD player and satellite TV channels. The television room is also suitable for small conferences, seminars and meetings, for a maximum of 17 people.
Accommodation is in 'fixed' units that have all the comfort and luxury of rooms, but retain the airy and outside ambiance of a tent. They are elevated above the surroundings by stiltz, constructed on wooden platforms, and especially designed so you can admire the sensational Namib Naukluft outlook. Apart from dramatic mountains and dunes scenery, springbok, oryx, mountain zebra and a variety of species of birds fly-in or pass by. There are:
- 11 luxury tented rooms: En-suite shower, toilet, twin wash basin, fridge and telephone are standard as are the private decks with splash pool, a perfect position for a romantic sundowners.
