Norotshama River Resort lies around fifty kilometers northwest of the village of Noordoewer in southern Namibiaon. Where these desert horses come from remains a mystery however it is largely thought that the horses are descendants of the horses from the German Schutztruppler. Abandoned after the invasion of the then German South West Africa in 1915. Extremely shy, these rugged beasts have adapted well to the demanding conditions of the desert.

Steeped in history the farm also has the relics of a German military battalion and a small graveyard of German Mounted Infantrymen that fell during the Nama rebellion of 1903 to 1906.
