Rossmund Lodge & Golf course
Swakopmund - Namibia
The Rossmund Lodge is situated on the northern banks of the Swakop River, approximately 6kms from the coastal town of Swakopmund. The Lodge forms part of the 18-hole Rossmund Golf Course, uniquely set in the Namib Desert, and is one of only five registered all-grass desert golf courses in the world. The rural location of the lodge makes it an ideal setting for non-golfers wanting to avoid staying in the town.
Rossmund Lodge is beautifully positioned, with 360° vistas of the fairways, and a striking backdrop of the Namib Desert sand dunes. Its location beyond the coastal mist belt, (which frequently engulfs Swakopmund and other coastal areas of Namibia) permits guests to enjoy longer spells of good weather.
The reception area houses an attractive bar, lounge and breakfast room. Meals can be eaten inside or outside beneath the wavering palm trees on the patio, that overlook both the golf course and the surrounding wilderness. The 'a-la-carte' restaurant in the main golf clubhouse is open daily (except Monday) from 11h00 to 19h00, and a splendid buffet lunch is served on Sundays.
Accommodation is in either 18 double chalets, (8 face the golf course) 4 chalets (conversion to family suites can be arranged) and 2 VIP luxury chalets. They all have en-suite bathrooms, a fireplace, satellite TV, mini bar, tea/coffee station and have private patios. The family suites have a separate lounge area.
There is also a fully-equipped conference room, which has seating facilities for up to 80 people.
The beautiful rock swimming pool provides a welcome relief for golfers and guests alike. It is also a terrific spot to just soak up the Namibian sunshine and desert tranquility.
Both golfers and non-golfers may stroll freely around the course. They are within touching distance of herds of free-roaming springbok, and can spend many a happy hour identifying the variety of bird species here, including bokmakierie, chestnut vented tit babbler, fiscal shrike, rock kestrels, white-backed mousebirds and guinea fowl to name but a few.
