Sophia Dale Basecamp is located just 12km from Namibia's popular coastal resort of Swakopmund, only 800m from the main road (B2). This is a bed and breakfast establishment, with the added attraction of self-catering facilities. Renovations for the camp were completed in 2009. It is set in a lush area next to the Swakop River without the fog banks that are associated on the coast.

The camp is an ideal destination for travellers and families who prefer to be away from the hustle and bustle of Swakopmund, but still close enough to drive into town and use its beaches, shopping, medical and banking facilities if required. There are also a wide range of bars and restaurants in the town.

Although there is no restaurant at present, future planning includes the addition of a cozy and inviting Lapa by the end of 2010. Sophia Dale Basecamp will be offering local and international cuisine for their diners. Traditional German breakfasts can be ordered, but guests must order meals in advance, with the chef's home made sausages a speciality.

Other facilities include a small shop, selling a wide range of goods for your cooler box or to stock up for your stay and onward journey, such as cool drinks, firewood and snacks. There is also a laundry service, secure parking and an outside braai area.

The accommodation has been designed and decorated in 'authentic African styles' and are in a combination of:

2 x Self-catering bungalows: These have 2 bedrooms with 2 beds in each room. Each bedroom also has its own bathroom. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, 2 plate stove, kettle, coffee machine, radio, as well as adequate cooking utensils. There is also a small dining area with views of the surrounding area.

3 x double rooms: These are in the building known as The Royal House, mainly for visitors who don't want to do there own cooking. Each room has a kettle and a fridge. Guests can relax on the verandah and armchairs and a couch are also provided in the rooms.

• Rooms 1 & 2 are have 2 beds in each room and are equipped with shared bathroom facilities with a shower. They are also suitable for a group of 4 people.
• Room 3 is a comfortable double room, which can convert to 2 single beds. It has its own bathroom with bath and shower.

1 x Family room: Families can be accommodated in rooms 1 & 2 in The Royal House. They can be converted for a family of 5 or 6 people.
