Hotel Schweizerhaus
Swakopmund - Namibia
Hotel Schweizerhaus is conveniently situated in Swakopmund just a few minutes walk from the town centre, (and it's magnificent historical buildings) and the main beach. It has belonged to the Anton family since 1965, and has established itself as one of the town's leading hotels. As it has won a 'Best Hotel 50 rooms or less,' award for 4 consecutive years, it has become something of a Swakopmund landmark these days.
The hotel also boasts one of Namibia's famous coffee shops, Cafe Anton. Even if you're not staying at the hotel, it is well worth a visit. It has a mouthwatering selection of home made traditional German confectionery, cheese cakes and small pastries on view. Many visitors to the area, happily munch away on a slice (or two) of delicious Black Forest Cream Cake, Florentiners, or 'Bee Sting,' - a cream cake with a honey nut topping!
Guests can relax in the lounge with it's comfortable seating areas and an inviting fireplace to ward off the chilly, winter evenings. Other facilities include a same-day laundry and ironing service, 24hr security car parking, and there are safes at reception for guests to lock up their valuables. There is an Internet cafe only 1 block away, children are welcome here, and there is 1 room that is wheelchair friendly.
A breakfast buffet and small lunch menu are served in the hotel's restaurant. The Captain's Bar has closed unfortunately, but residents can still order beers and wines throughout the day. The hotel recommends the Western Saloon Restaurant, The Brauhaus or Kuki's Pub to their guests, for an evening of excellent seafood, steak and 'a la carte' wining and dining.
There are 24 rooms at the Schweizerhaus. 16 are standard, 3 are luxury, there are 3 de luxe rooms, 1 suite and 1 de luxe suite. They all have en-suite bathrooms, a TV, telephone and room service is available from reception during the day. All the luxury/de luxe rooms have feathered duvets on the beds.
Functions and conferences can be arranged on request. Their conference room comfortably seats up to 30 people. Basic technical equipment, such as an overhead projector and a flip chart are available, and full technical packages can be organized.
