Tsaobis Leopard Nature Park was founded by Dr. August Juchli in 1969 and was declared a game reserve in 1970. Tsaobis is situated 63 km south-west of Karibib on the banks of the Swakop River and borders the northeast-corner of the Namib Naukluft Park.
The reserve, covering 37 000 ha of mountainous, semi-arid wilderness is home to desert adapted wildlife such as springbok, oryx, mountain zebra, ostrich and kudu, as well as baboon, klipspringer, rock hyrax and even leopard. A variety of bird species are especially found in the dry river bed of the Swakop River where magnificent Acacia trees provide food and breeding sites.
