Tsumkwe Country Lodge

Bushmanland - Namibia

Tsumkwe Lodge is situated in the town of Tsumkwe, which is the administrative centre of Bushmanland. It is on the road to the border post with Botswana.

The lodge is accessible by car, via a good dirt road. A 4x4 vehicle would be required though to explore the surrounding area of Bushmanland. The lodge is co-operating with the community run Nyae Nyae Conservancy, set up in 1998 to give the San people, the right to benefit from the wildlife and tourist activities in the area.

The main lodge/Lapa area houses the restaurant, bar, kitchen and braai. Breakfast is either a cooked English/Farmers or a selection of cereals. There is a light lunch and set dinner menu, with a tea/coffee facility available throughout the day.

Accommodation is in 25 twin & 1 double room. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom with a shower, flush toilet, mosquito net, fan and front lying verandah.

There is a swimming pool and a laundry service.

Take the opportunity to visit the Ju/'hoan (Bushmen) community on one of the lodge's half or full day guided tours. Here you will learn about their extraordinary hunting skills, and plants used in traditional medicines at these authentic, Bushmen villages.

Alternatively, you could join a trip to the Khaudum National Park or Nyae Nyae Conservancy. Although it is possible to visit Khaudum in your own vehicle, entry is only allowed when two or more vehicles are travelling together.

Another feature of the area are the many Baobab trees, some more than 2000 years old. The largest is known as 'Holboom', which means 'Hollow Tree' in Afrikaans. .

Please note that activities need to be booked in advance.
