Weissenfels Guest Farm

Gamsberg - Namibia

Located between Windhoek and the coast of Namibia, is the Weissenfels Guest Farm, covering 5,600ha of pristine nature. It is the only Nooitgedachter Horse stud in Namibia, and has a large variety of nature activities, including a health and equestrian centre.

The farm is an ideal stopover between Windhoek and Swakopmund or Walvis Bay, especially when driving the through the fascinating Gamsberg Mountains, to Kuiseb and the Namib Naukluft route, and also between Windhoek and Sesriem / Sossusvlei.

The Nooitgedachter Horse Stud was established by Rosi Rohr, an equestrian enthusiast and Ethno practitioner. Responsible for introducing the basic breeding stock, brought in from Pretoria, the stud is now well-established and a few years ago, the equestrian farming was extended to include an Arabian Stud. Together Winston Retief and Rosi Rohr, combine run all facets of the farming operation, as well as the Guest House activities.

All meals are catered for in the traditional Namibian farmhouse style. Breakfast, light lunches and dinner are served, and lunch packs can be ordered for those who are out on full-day activities. The conference facilities can cater for groups of up to 20 people.

Accommodation is in either 4 double budget rooms, 6 double en-suite rooms and 1 family room, that sleeps 4 people.

There are two farm dams on the property, both offering excellent birding and photographic opportunities. Game is plentiful and roams freely about the farm, and you may even encounter a leopard going about it's business. Many of their guests enjoy a picnic lunch at one of these dams.

Game drives by vehicle or group horseback treks can be organized. Their hiking trails offer scenic walks through rocky gorges, where a welcome swim in the rock pools, refreshes the tired hiker. The climb up the granite hills is well worth the effort, the view of the Gamsberg and surrounding mountains is breathtaking. Maps of the hiking trails can be collected at the office or be faxed for prior planning, but the Guest Farm advise on advance bookings. Hiking ration packs can be ordered for the trek. The Gamsberg is the third highest mountain in Namibia and the flora on the plateau is amazing.

The horse trails should be be booked one week prior to a visit, mainly to establish the needs of the individual rider. Guests are also welcome to spend time with the Cherubim Nooitgedachter Stud services.

For the spiritual, there is the Labyrinth of the 'DaHa,' the only one of its kind in Namibia. There is a walk through the path of prayer, for people seeking the Divine, regardless of tradition. The winding path of prayer, leads to the center, and is based on a labyrinth laid on the floor of Chartres Cathedral around 1200 AD. Apparently, it serves as a mirror to reflect the movement of the spirit in our lives.

After a session wandering around in circles, many guests head for some alternative healing activities and relaxation therapies in their Vortex Wellness Centre. It includes an aroma bubble bath, a relaxation massage, and Reiki and Scio treatments.
