Tsaris Mountains
Mountains of Namibia
The Tsarisberge (Tsaris Mountains) are a small range of mountains, mainly to the north, but either side of the C19 from Mariental, a road that runs as far north as the settlement of Solitaire. The rugged mountain landscape offers a number of natural springs, marked walking trails, with varying degrees of difficulty and routes for self-drive 4x4 trips. It is also a great area for bird watching; black eagles and rosy-faced lovebirds are resident here.
There are a number of scenic spots on plateau's that overlook a number of canyons. Enthusiasts of geology, palaeontology and archeology, can all study their 'ology's' in peace here. A favourite stopover for both the Tsarisberge and day trips to the dunes at Sossusvlei, or the nearby Naukluft Mountains, is the highly recommended Zebra River Lodge.
The settlement of Bullsport is marked on nearly every map, however it consists of little more than the guest farm. Great for hiking.
A small, friendly, owner operated rest camp, with individual bungalows & campsites. Great for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life
A small private lodge on the banks of the Tsauchab River - an excellent place for walking and enjoying the surrounding scenery
Another excellent place for hiking, in the Tsaris Mountains. As there are many lodges located closer to Sossusvlei than Zebra River Lodge it is often overlooked, but if you want a genuinely warm welcome at a special lodge then the problems of location can easily be overlooked.
