Phlogopite

Introduction: Phlogopite often emits a reddish tinge and was named 'fire-like' by the Greeks or phlogopos. It is one of the rock-forming species found in some metamorphic and igneous rocks such as carbonatites and marbles.
Distribution: The Rössing District and on the farm Vergenoeg 92 in the Karibib District.
Composition: Silicate.
Crystal system: Monoclinic.
Lustre: Pearly.
Streak: White.
Hardness: 2-2.5.
