experience the vast open spaces of Namibia

This safari departs from Swakopmund and travel along the Skeleton Coast and through the Namib Desert to the rustical Palmwag Lodge in Damaraland. Let the fascinating scenery, the Ovahimba nomads and variety of game (including desert elephants and black rhino) leave an everlasting impression with you.

Day
Route/Activities
1
Palmwag
The safari departs from Swakopmund along the Atlantic Coast towards the North. Visit the lichen fields near Wlotzka’s Baken before continuing to Henties Bay, a small holiday resort. Onwards to the seal colony at Cape Cross. After visiting the seals, the journey continues via Ugabmund to the southern Skeleton Coast Park to inspect a shipwreck. Enjoy a picnic lunch and cold refreshments then to the old deserted Toscanini Diamond Mine and also an abandoned oilrig. We leave the Skeleton Coast Park in the early afternoon via Springbokwasser and guests can experience the harsh transition from the Namib Desert to the Damaraland highlands with its impressive landscape and ragged valleys.

Overnight stay at Palmwag Lodge, a rustic but refined bush lodge. After enjoying a drink and a delicious supper, guests can luxuriate in the Lodge’s cosy atmosphere and let the day’s impressions sink in.

2
Palmwag
After breakfast a day safari to Sesfontein and its surroundings. Visit one of the six springs near the mountain slopes of Sesfontein (hence the name “Sesfontein”) and the one-time German fort which has been restored and today functions as a lodge. The old military cemetery with its lonely graves conjures up memories of the German colonial period.

Alleviate the midday heat in a natural “pool” of the Ongongo Waterfall near Warmquelle, where the crystal clear water of the pool is inviting and refreshing. An ideal venue for lunch! The return trip leads through the Khowarib Gorge - a fairytale gorge through which the Hoanib River has laboriously wound itself.

After a short rest, we return to Palmwag Lodge.

3
Palmwag
Today’s safari takes the guest into the breathtaking landscape of the Concession Area for some game watching. Encounter and watch a variety of game such as oryx, springbok, kudu, giraffe, jackal, hyena, sometimes even lion, cheetah and leopard, and - with a bit of luck the endangered Black Rhino (Bicornis-Bicornis) and the famous Desert Elephant, all of which roam the area in perfect freedom. Birdwatchers reap rich rewards from the diversity of bird species found in the area. Picnick lunch under shady trees. After a short rest and a possible “bath” in one of the many clear pools, return to Palmwag Lodge.

Overnight in the Palmwag Lodge with full board and lodging included.

4
Swakopmund
Early departure to Twyfelfontein to visit the rock engravings. Thereafter we continue via the “Burnt Mountain” to Uis, a deserted mining town. As you pass the highest mountain of Namibia, the ± 2800 meter high Brandberg, it appears almost surreal. Return to Swakopmund in the late afternoon.
