Caprivi Safari

Includes: Kavango River Cruise, Mahango, Chobe River, Victoria Falls

The Caprivi Tour is a 6 day accommodated tour which starts in Windhoek, heads north through the Kavango and Caprivi regions of Namibia, and ends up in either Livingston, Kasane or Victoria Falls. This trip really does have best the Caprivi has to offer - including an adventurous boat trip on the Kavango Rivers, and exciting game drives to the Mahangu, Mudumu and Caprivi Game Parks.

Heading north to the small town of Okahandja, (the place where two rivers flow into each other to form one wide one, in Otjiherero) there is the opportunity to visit the graves of their great chiefs and the woodcarvers market. The journey continues to the large town of Otjiwarongo, 'a place the grazing is good and the cattle grow fat' is one translation in Herero before a visit to The Hoba Meteorite, which has never been moved, because of it's large mass, estimated to weigh around 60 tons.

Once the tour hits the town of Rundu, your well into the Kavango region and mainly riverine dwelling people. Their livelihood is based on fishing, livestock-keeping and cropping (mainly perlmillet/mahangu) so extra income derived from tourism is most welcome. This is the 'water-rich' part of the country, and the complex of rivers and inland water channels, makes this a fertile wilderness of riverside forests, flood plains, swamps and open woodland.

The order of activities on this tour might change depending on the season and to allow optimal game & wildlife viewing.

The final leg is to the Chobe River, twisting and turning it's way through swamps of wide reed and papyrus beds, forming hidden lagoons, which sometimes fill with water lilies. It's sounds peaceful and idyllic, which it is, but don't forget about the large herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as hippo and crocs, as you cruise down the river!
