Etosha Tour
Includes: Etosha National Park
This is a 4 day accommodated tour, that visits the Etosha National Park in Northern Namibia, stopping at the small town of Okahandja and the 'very enchanting town of Outjo,' ( which means 'cone shaped hills' in Herero). The emphasis of this tour is purely on game viewing although the main feature of the Etosha is the salt pan, which is a vast shallow depression of white saline sand, that shimmers with mirages during the heat of most days. It is known to some as the 'great white place of dry water' and herds of 50 elephant or more are not unusual, and often walk right down the middle of the road! (In Etosha, not Outjo!) Lion and hyena take a bit more searching for, and quite a few of the animals found in the park are rare and endangered, such as the black rhino and the black-faced impala. Altogether, there are some 114 mammals species walking, prowling, grazing or on constant predator alert.
With twice weekly departures from Windhoek, (on Tuesday and Saturday,) and Swakopmund every Saturday, there is sure to be a suitable departure time. The Swakopmund departure of this safari, starts with a transfer from Swakopmund to Okahandja, to join the group departing from Windhoek - this departure returns to Windhoek in effect making this a Swakopmund - Etosha - Windhoek trip.
This Etosha Tour is often paired with the Sossusvlei Shuttle to combine two of Namibia's favourite destinations: Etosha & Sossusvlei. After visiting Etosha, there is also the opportunity to join a tour through the Caprivi, which ends at Victoria Falls.
- Day 1: Windhoek - Etosha
- Guests will be collected from their respective hotels in time to depart Windhoek (or Swakopund) en-route to Etosha National Park, (in an air-conditioned vehicle) at approximately 07h30, before heading north to Okahandja for a short stop. More clients may join the tour here and then the journey continues via Outjo, with the possibility of a refreshment stop. With only 100kms to go before arriving at the park, it's time to get the binoculars and camera's ready, in time for that first afternoon game drive. After an afternoon game drive in Etosha and shortly before sunset, the tour departs the park and heads to the accommodation.
