A lodged tour which visit the tribes of Namibia as well as the highlights of southern Namibia

In northern Namibia the safari visits the Etosha Park and several traditional tribal areas. While in the southern Namibia the safari visits the traditional highlights of the Fish River Canyon, Luderitz and of course the huge sand dunes of the Namib Desert at Sossusvlei.

This 14 day safari visits some of the traditional highlights of Namibia. In northern Namibia you visit three of the traditional tribal groups the Bushmen, Owambo and Himba people. Apart from being a fascinating cultural experience with some of Namibia's diverse people the safari also travels through some remote and beautiful areas.

Tsumeb
In the morning the tour departs from Windhoek to Tsumeb. At Okahandja - the former tribal center of the Herero people and old mission station - visit some Herero graves, the cemetery of the German Schutztruppe and the Kavango woodcarvers market. The tour then heads via Otjiwarongo and Otavi to Tsumeb. The Cultural village, an Open Air Museum , invites tourists to get an insight into the rural life and cultures of Namibian tribes. It displays the life of the majority of Namibians and tells about their history and culture, shows their work and skills in arts and crafts. A visit to the Mine museum is also planned.

Bushman Foundation
Today is the day of the Bushmen, the original inhabitants of Namibia. The tour heads to Tsintsabis were the Muramba trail is to be found. After an informative lecture, which relates to the traditions and culture of the San-bushmen - a tribe of hunters and gatherers - start to a approx. 2-3 hours walk, where it will be learned how the Bushmen People interpret the wildlife behavior by tracking a trail and the unromantic art of survival. After lunch continue to Farm Hedwigslust, the home of the Ombili foundation. Attempts are made to teach Bushmen (300 are living on the farm) to become farmers and no longer hunters, because their base of living, game, is extinct. As the Ombili foundation is financing this project through donations, a gratitude is very welcome. Afterwards continue to Mokuti Lodge at the border of the Etosha National Park.

Oshakati / Owamboland
Drive North, to Ovamboland, the most densely populated region of Namibia, app. 600 000 people. The Ovambo are divided into 8 sub-tribes. First stop will be the Nakambale Museum at Olukondo, that represents the present and the past of the role of the Finnish Mission, the church and the local cultures. Visit the Ngonga homestead, observe a demonstration of wheat-crushing, basket-weaving, hair-plaiting, traditional dancing and music etc. A traditional Owambo cultural lunch will be served. Afterwards proceed to Oshakati via Ondongwa.

Kaokoland
Today the tour travels through the western Ovamboland. The landscape is characterized by flat, sandy plains dotted with Makalani palms, savannah grasslands and Mopane woodlands. Different attractions will be visited. Continue to Opuwo via Ruacana. Lunch packs en route.

Hobatere Lodge
Today a typical Himba cultural settlement will be visited. The Himba, a sub-tribe of the Herero - are nomads who are still living their old tradition and culture. Their cattle is their wealth and so they live a nomadic existance in the Kaokoland Region to feed them. Thats why the tour passes several deserted Himba settlements to be seen along the way.

A local guide, accompanying the group, will negotiate a visit to a Kraal with the headman of the tribe and will explain the lifestyle and the culture of the Himba. Afterwards return to Opuwo und proceed in southern direction to Hobatere Lodge at the western border of the Etosha National Park. In the afternoon a game drive will take place.

Etosha
Travel through the western part of Etosha National Park. The oryx and many other antelopes prefer this region of Etosha making it an ideal area for a safari. West of Okaukuejo is the well known Sprokieswoud, Phantom or Fairy Forest, the only location where the African Moringa tree grows in a flat area. Lunchpacks en route. At the floodlit waterhole wildlife can be viewed throughout the day as well as at night.

Windhoek
After a short safari game drive in the morning the tour leaves the Etosha National Park. Return to Windhoek via Outjo, Otjiwarongo and Okahandja. Lunch en route.

Kalahari
The second section of the tour starts from Windhoek and heads via Dordabis where we visit the oldest Karakul weavery in Namibia -, Uhlenhorst and Stampriet to the Stoney's Country Hotel. This part of Namibia is within the Kalahari Desert and low red dunes are the order of the day.

Fish River Canyon
Today the tour starts with the drive along the Auob River, via Koes and visit to the Kokerboom Forest (quivertree) near to Keetmanshoop. Before proceeding past the Naute Dam to the Canon Lodge which is situated near to Namibia's famous Fish River Canyon

Luderitz
Visit the Fish River Canyon the second largest canyon of the world. This Gigantic ravine, in places almost 500 metres deep, has been gorged out of vast undulating plain in the course of thousands of years. Proceed to Luderitz via Seeheim and Aus. This section of the tour takes you through intriguing moon landscape of the endless Namib Desert vistas and bizarre rock formations. Lunch at Klein Aus Vista.

Luderitz
The day is spent in Luderitz. The first German settlement in Namibia, named after the merchant Adolf Luederitz from Bremen, who bought this area from the Hottentots in 1883. This small harbor town is perched on rugged black rock, offset by the deep blue waters of the bay, and is surrounded by bays, coves and fjords. During the morning visit to the Ghost Town of Kolmanskop where diamonds were first discovered in Namibia. Afterwards sightseeing in and around Luderitz.

Maltahohe
Today we drive back through the restricted diamond area to Aus and the scenic Neisip Plain. Lunch en route. Afterwards the tour winds its way along the awesome loneliness of the Schwarzrand to Maltahohehe. Tonight we stay at Hammerstein Lodge near the dunes at Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei
Early this morning the tour departs on a excursion to the Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei, a large clay pan in the centre to the Namib Desert, surrounded by the highest sanddunes in the world. Sossusvlei is the highlight of most peoples visit to Namibia. Afternoon at leisure.

Windhoek
The last day on tour in southern Namibia begins as we leave the Namib Desert and drive via Buellsport and Klein Aub to Rehoboth for lunch at the Oanob Dam. The tour ends on arrival in Windhoek in the late afternoon
