Victoria Falls - Caprivi Tour

The Victoria Falls – Caprivi Tour, is a 7 day accommodated tour, that sets out from Victoria Falls and heads through the Caprivi Region of Namibia, before aiming south to the capital Windhoek, where the tour ends. After your journey you can continue on to visit some of the other highlights of the country. During the safari:

  • You will visit many of the National Parks in the Caprivi region of Namibia.
  • Enjoy a number of boat cruises on the Chobe, Kwando or Kavango Rivers.
  • Have excellent opportunities to view and photograph game close up, either by boat or 4x4 vehicle, including large numbers of elephant, hippo and crocodiles.
  • Visit the largest meteorite in the world. The Hoba Meteorite is unusual in that it is flat on both surfaces, possibly causing it to have skipped across the top of the atmosphere in the way a flat stone skips on water.

Day 1: Victoria Falls - Zambezi River Lodge
Guests will be collected from their accommodation in Victoria Falls at approximately 07h45 and the tour begins by leaving Victoria Falls, heading to via Kasane in Botswana to Ngoma Bridge (the Botswana / Namibia border.) The drive continues into Namibia, towards the town of Katima Mulilo, eventually arrive at Namushasha Lodge. The lodge's elevated position allows it to look through a thick canopy of dense Jackalberry and Mangosteen trees. The first activity of the tour is a late afternoon 'sundowner' boat-trip on the Chobe River, famous for offering some of the world's best game viewing, including large herds of elephant. Day 2: Zambezi River - Kwando River
Some morning leisure time. An added advantage of staying at this lodge, is that it is bounded on all sides by wild game parks. There is another afternoon boat-trip, this time to cross the Kwando river, where an open 4x4 game drive vehicle awaits inside the Bwabwata National Park, the largest park in the Caprivi Strip. The game drive is concluded with a short return boat trip to the lodge. This beautiful region of Namibia, with it's lush tropical vegetation, has plenty of game, including hippo and crocodile and the elusive lechwe. Overnight in double rooms

Day 3: Kwando River - Mahango Safari Lodge
The journey continues via Kongola and along the Caprivi Strip, spending a portion of the day driving along the main road of the Caprivi Game Park, an area well-known for elephants. As large herds frequently delay traffic as they cross the road, this is an ideal opportunity to get out the camera's and binoculars It's then on through Bagani and on to the lodge. There are great views of the Okavango River from main dining area/bar and swimming pool at the lodge.

Day 4: Mahango National Park
A day's game driving in Mahango National Park, this time by 4x4 safari vehicle. There is no shortage of elephants, crocodiles, hippos and fish eagles in this area. Back to Mahangu, which means 'food of the people.' Time to try and spot some of the going's on at the river from the lodge, through the Jackalberry trees and wild date palms.

Day 5: Mahangu - Rundu
Visit the Popa Falls, (more falls than rapids) before proceeding through the Kavango Region of Namibia to the Kaisosi River Lodge near Rundu. Water levels permitting, it will be time for another late afternoon boat-trip on the Kavango River.

Accommodation: Taranga Safari Lodge, Hakusembe Lodge or Kaisosi River Lodge
Day 6: Rundu - Otavi
Time to leave the Kavango Region and drive via Rundu and Grootfontein to Kombat. Visit the Hoba Meteorite, the largest meteorite in the world, and on in time for lunch at Ohange Lodge, a mountain retreat, shaded by large Marula and Tamboti trees. There is a late afternoon 'sundowner drive' on the farm and cheetah, eland, the Damara Dik-Dik, giraffes, Burchell's and Hartman Mountain Zebra, waterbuck, impala, black wildebeest, kudu's and oryx are all indigenous to the area. Overnight in double rooms

Accommodation: Gabus Game Lodge or Ohange Lodge
Day 7: Windhoek
Today we head for Windhoek through the small town of Otavi and the larger Otjiwarongo to Okahandja. Here there is a visit to the woodcarvers market and the Ombo Ostrich Farm, dependent on time, before proceeding to the capital of Namibia, Windhoek, with an arrival time in the afternoon.
