This safari starts travelling from Swakopmund along the coast to the seal colony at Cape Cross and then on to Omdeldam. At the Spitzkoppe, participate in climbing and walking excursions and enjoy a typical Namibian sundowner at your campsite. Overnight under starry skies before returning to Swakopmund via the Welwitschia Plains and the bizarre Moonlandscape of the Namib desert.

Day 1
Spitkoppe |
The safari departs from Swakopmund in the morning travelling north along the coast to Henties Bay, visiting the lichen fields at Wlotzka’s Baken. After a short drive through Henties Bay, a small holiday resort on the Atlantic, continue to the seal colony at Cape Cross. Between 80 000 and 100 000 seals have settled here over the years and excellent studies of these animals can be made. The trip continues to the Omdel Dam in the Omaruru River. A short picnic lunchbreak under the shady trees in the riverbed. Continue in the riverbed over the plains of the Namib Desert to Spitzkoppe, a granite islandberg in the middle of the desert, also known as the Namibian “Matterhorn”. A short climbing expedition and hike through the gorges of the Spitzkoppe. Sundowner with fantastic sunsets and spectacular view over the western Namib Desert.

Day 2
Swakopmund |
Experience a fascinating sunrise with a unique colour display on the “red” granite rocks. The journey continues towards Swakopmund. The trail winds through the Swakop River, past the Oasis Goanikontes, to view the Welwitschia plants on the Welwitschia Plain. Continue through the gorges and valleys of the Swakop Valley, the Moonlandscape and back to Swakopmund. Stop at the “Groaning Dune”, close to the ocean. The safari returns to Swakopmund in the afternoon. |
