Route/Activities
Day 1&2

Your guide will meet you at the International Airport in Windhoek and you will spend a few hours in the capital of Namibia, for exchanging money and last minute shopping. We depart from Windhoek to Sesriem Camp Site via Spreetshoogte Pass and Solitaire. We will visit Sossusvlei renowned for its gigantic dunes, these star-shaped mountains of sand, the highest of which are estimated to be about 325 m (some of the highest sand dunes in the world), are a sought-after topic for artists and photographers. You can see desert wildlife such as Oryx, Springbok, Ostrich, Mountain Zebra and Black Backed Jackal.

2 nights camping

Day 3

Leaving Sesriem we drive through the famous Namib Naukluft Park which covers 49.768 square km of desert savannah grassland, gypsum and quartz plains, granite mountains, an estuary lagoon, a canyon and huge drifting apricot-coloured dunes. We will visit the Kuiseb Canyon and stay over at Bloedkoppie to enjoy the stunning sunset and sleeping under the clear sky.

1 nights camping

Day 4&5

We depart from Bloedkoppie early morning and visit the Moon Landscape, Lichen fields and Welwitschia Plains, one of the oldest plant life form in the world. Proceeding to Walvis Bay, the biggest deep-sea harbour between Angola’s capital Luanda and Cape Town, South Africa. Finally we will spend the nights in Swakopmund, the resort town at the coast with its fine examples of German colonial architecture.

2 nights accommodated

Day 6&7

Up north along the coastline we will visit the famous seal colony Cape Cross before we proceed to Damaraland. This unique wilderness area includes some extraordinary geological features, archaeological sites and hidden pictographs. We will also visit Twyfelfontein well known of its veritable treasure house of rock engravings and paintings. This is probably the largest and most spectacular collection of its kind in Africa – depicting many species of animals among them elephants, rhinos, giraffes and lions. The barren surroundings and rock–strewn slopes seem almost unlikely place for any living habitation, but there is a small spring near the base of the hill and this provides water for both people and animals within the area. Also we will visit the Organ Pipes, a mass of perpendicular dolerite pillars, which are exposed in a gorge roughly 100 m long and reach a maximum height of 5 m.

2 nights camping

Day 8

We continue our journey further north, entering Kaokoland, a region of rugged mountain ranges interspersed with wide valleys, bordered on the west by Skeleton Coast. Himba tribes, one of the last traditional living clans, are often seen in that region, Stay over at Ongongo Camp Site, situated next to the Ongongo Waterfalls. The waterfall, fed by a natural spring, drops into a small gorge of calcrete cliffs at Ongongo.

1 nights camping

Day 9&10

Arriving at Epupa Camp, located on the banks of the perennial Kunene River, approximately 700 m east of the main falls. The vegetation will change denser and almost tropical. We have reached the northernmost point of Namibia. Here you can enjoy the company of the friendly Himba, the beauty of the falls and relax for the next day.

2 nights camping

Day 11

Driving from Epupa on a scenic route we will stop at Himba villages where you can experience the lifestyle and habits of one of the last traditional living tribes. This vast and seemingly lifeless and barren area supports an abundant variety of birds. An estimated 382 species are found. The endemic birds of Kaokoland, including Damaraland, are exceptional and interesting to the ornithologist (look out for the Rufustailed Palm Thrush) as the desert elephants are to the mammalgist. We will spend the night at Kavita Lion Lodge, bordering Etosha National Park, Damaraland and Kaokoland. It was established February 1997 and ensures the survival of the Namibian Lion. This is a non-profitable organisation and their first project was rescuing 5 lions from a zoo.

1 night camping

Day 12,13,14

Departing from Kavita we enter Etosha National Park where we will spend three days intensively game viewing and overnight at two of the three camps: Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni. Etosha National Park covers 22.270 square km and is one of the largest parks in southern Africa. The vegetation in the park varies from Dwarf Scrub Savannah and Grassland to Thorn Bush and Woodland Savannah. A total of 114 mammals are represented in the park, including several rare and endangered species such as the Black Rhino and the Black-Faced Impala. Etosha’s elephants are reputed to be of the largest in the world and the bird life consists of about 340 species.

3 nights accommodated

Day 15&16

Early morning we depart to the northern part of Namibia to Ngepi Rest Camp, situated on the banks of the Okavango River a welcome stopover for weary travellers, 5 km north of the Mahango Game Reserve. It is a short walk to the Popa Falls and with a little scrambling and rock hopping; you will find yourself surrounded by rushing channels of water. The name Popa Falls is misleading, as the “falls” are not much more than a series of rapids created by a rocky ledge. The rapids have a drop of about 4 m and extend across the full length of the river. They are best viewed during the dry season. The Popa rapids are an important habitat for two of southern Africa’s rare fish species. These are the broad head catfish and the occulted spiny eel. Tiger fishing is popular but visitors are warned to be careful as crocodiles and hippos abound in the main stream of the river.

2 night camping

Day 17&18 &19

Departing from Ngepi Camp we do game drives in the Mahango Game Reserve, which borders on the perennial Okavango River. Characterised by reverie forests, broad flood plains, magnificent Baobabs and large herds of elephant and red lechwe, the Mahango is one of Namibia’s most diverse and interesting conservation areas. In Bushmenland we will spend a night at Kaudum Camp enjoying the night under Big Baobab trees with the Makuri Bushmen to entertain us.

3 nights camping

Day 20

Our final night will be at Okonjima, nestled in the Omboroko Mountains. Part of the Waterberg Plateau, lies this small, family-run guest farm and home of the Africat Foundation. With the only object in mind, to make your stay the highlight of your trip through Namibia. Experience the Bushmen trail, where guides demonstrate and e explain the traditional lifestyle and philosophy of these unique and ancient people. With over 300 different species of birds that have been positively identified – this is a must for bird watchers and photographers alike.

This last night is one of luxury as we stay in private rooms at Okonjima Main Lodge
