Includes: Damaraland

The Namibia Mountain Biking Safari is a 5 night / 6 day camping safari, taking in the wildlife and spectacular desert scenery on the way, using a combination of mountain bikes and safari vehicles. There is a real sense of achievement from pedaling one's way through this vast, changing landscapes, the rewarding and relaxing day's end culminating in a refreshing sundowner in the cool desert air.

  • A support vehicle will accompany the cyclist's at all times. The advantage of back-up vehicles means that if the biking gets a bit tough on a particular stage, then climb into the safari vehicle and continue the final kilometers by road.
  • A wide variety of people can join these tours, providing there is a reasonable level of fitness.
  • There is no age limit, just a desire to see Namibia and burn some calories.
  • The tour is not a race. On any cycle stage of the safari, the faster cyclists can go ahead whilst the slower one's go at their own comfortable pace.
  • There is time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and take photos en-route.
  • There are surprisingly few punctures, as the surfaces are firm and the time of day chosen to cycle makes it a pleasant and extremely enjoyable ride.
  • The lure of a comfortable bed and good food will be awaiting you at the end of every day's ride.
  • Accommodation used is of a high standard

Day 3: Damaraland Camp, Damaraland
The longest stage of the tour - a route of 90km. In this region early morning mists, generated by the clash between the icy Atlantic Ocean and the warm desert air of the Skeleton Coast, drift inland along the river valley, providing sustenance to the flora and fauna of the region. Rare succulent plants can manage to eke out an existence in this harsh environment, due to this meteorological phenomena. Therefore, there are wonderful opportunities to game view, plus an interesting array of flora, such as euphorbias and shepherd's trees to lookout for on the way as well. The camp is situated on the northern face of the Huab River Valley, and looks south towards the imposing Brandberg Mountains. This comfortable and friendly camp offers walks and drives in one of the best wilderness areas in Namibia. The search for desert-adapted elephant are a great favourite here and gemsbok, greater kudu, springbok, and occasionally lion, cheetah and black rhino can be spotted. Damaraland Camp also attempts to integrate the community, environment and wildlife on a sustainable basis. Overnight in comfortable tented rooms, with en-suite facilities.

Desert Rhino Camp is situated in the 450 000-hectare private Palmwag Concession in north-west Namibia, between Etosha and the Skeleton Coast - and it boasts a high level of privacy and wilderness experience. This private concession has a number of freshwater springs that support healthy populations of animals, including desert-adapted elephants and black rhino, not forgetting large populations of the Hartmann's Mountain Zebra, giraffe, gemsbok, springbok and kudu. The predator population is the largest outside of the Etosha National Park, with cheetah, leopard, and brown hyena and spotted hyena also resident in the area.
