Galton's Africa Safari

8-day exclusive, elegant, full serviced camping & lodge safari through Namibia

This two week fly-in safari around Namibia visits some of the countries most spectacular areas. These include the Fish River Canyon, the giant dunes at Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert, an exclusive camp on the Kunene River in the Kaokoland region of Namibia, the Etosha National Park and Africat, a cheetah & leopard conservation project.

This is designed to be the ultimate up-market lodge experience and transport is on private charter flights and exclusive transfers. While this is the ultimate Namibian experience the cost is fairly prohibitive, we are happy to use this as a basis to design your trip to Namibia, but can replace some of the flights with land transfers or use air taxis (instead of charter flights) on some of the flights to make for a less expensive experience.

Route/Activities
Day 1

Upon arrival at Hosea Kutako (Windhoek) Airport you will be met and transferred to Eros Airport for a light aircraft charter flight to Etosha. A short drive from the airstrip takes you to our exclusive campsite at the private Fischer’s Pan Game Reserve – bordering the eastern perimeter of the world-renowned Etosha National Park, near to the Von Lindequist Gate. A delicious lunch is served upon arrival at the campsite. In addition to its prime and secluded location, our campsite is situated on the edge of a small vlei where a variety of game, including leopard, roam at will. Enjoy an afternoon game-drive in the Namutoni area, characterised by the historic Beau Gestean fort, and spend two overnights at our pre-erected camp

Day 2

Etosha National Park covers 22 270 square kilometres of countryside ranging from dense bush to barren plains. Spend the day game-viewing in the Park, visiting various waterholes and subterranean springs at Etosha Pan – a vast silvery-white shallow depression meaning "Place of Dry Water" – which attract large herds of animals. In a season of good rains, the Pan is home to flamingoes, pelicans and many other water birds. Enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the rest camps, and return to the campsite for sundowners, followed by dinner.

Day 3

Continue to the western side of Etosha National Park, stopping en route at numerous waterholes to view game at close quarters. In the afternoon, you will arrive at Ongava Lodge on the southwestern border of the Park close to the Andersson Gate. Enjoy a delicious dinner accompanied by excellent wines, and an overnight stay at the Lodge.

Day 4

Depart on an early morning game-drive before heading for our private campsite in southern Damaraland – magnificent unspoiled wilderness between the Ugab and the Huab rivers. Unique attractions include a variety of desert flora and fauna, fascinating geological formations, and a wealth of rock paintings and engravings. Enjoy a late afternoon stroll amongst the boulders and kopjes, and sundowners in these tranquil surrounds. Spend two overnights at our pre-erected camp with a full complement of staff to cater for you.

Day 5

Enjoy nature walks and off-road drives in search of the rare desert-adapted elephants and elusive desert black rhinos which have adapted to the harsh elements of the Damaraland region.

Day 6 & 7

Transfer to Etendeka Airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge Airstrip, stopping en route at the quaint coastal town of Swakopmund. After lunch at one of Swakopmund’s local seafood restaurants, return to the airport to continue your flight by light aircraft to Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge – situated in the heart of the Namib Desert on the NamibRand Nature Reserve. This 180 000-hectare reserve is one of the largest in Africa, and is renowned for its captivating beauty and diverse landscape. During your two-night stay at Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge in luxury air-conditioned desert villas, you will visit the highest dunes in the world at nearby Sossusvlei. Explore the environment’s desert-adapted flora and fauna on guided nature walks and hiking trails, and experience the dunes on All Terrain Vehicles with an experienced guide. At night, discover the magnificence of the desert sky from the Lodge’s sophisticated observatory.

Day 8
After breakfast, you will transfer to Windhoek by light aircraft where your safari terminates.
