Ultimate Skeleton Coast Fly-In Safari
Includes: Skeleton Coast - Namibia
The Ultimate Skeleton Coast Concession Safari is a trip to the Skeleton Coast Research Camp. Accommodation is in comfortable pre-set tents. It is a fly-in safari that requires a minimum of 4 guests, in a private group. To allow for flexibility the safari can start with a flight from any of the following destination:
- Eros Airport in Windhoek - 2.5hr.
- Swakopmund Airport - 2hr.
- Twyfelfontein - 45min.
- Palmwag - 30min.
It is also possible to customise the tour to start from any other landing strip in Namibia and additional nights can be added to suit individual requirements and this safari can be included on other fly-in, self-drive or accommodated safaris.
Skeleton Coast National Park - this park stretches from the Kunene River in the north for approximately 500km to the Ugab River in the south, and protects about one-third of Namibia's coastline. The landscape includes sand dunes, canyons and mountain ranges, synonymous with Namibia. The climatic conditions are not what you would normally expect in a desert country as dense fog and cold sea breezes, created by the cold Benguela Current which flows offshore, meets with the extreme heat of the Namib Desert.
The Skeleton Coast is usually associated with famous shipwrecks. The stories of sailors walking for hundreds of kilometres through the barren Namibian landscape in search of food and water emphasize their desperation to survive. The name (Skeleton Coast) was subsequently used from the bones that lined the beaches from whaling operations and seal hunts, with more than a few of them human.
The itinerary is flexible in its approach to a visiting group and their specific interests such as photography, botany, ornithology or wildlife.
Game is attracted to water seepages in the area and oryx, springbok, giraffe, ostrich, brown hyena, jackal and other smaller animals can be observed. Activities will be conducted in closed 4x4 vehicles with pop-top roofs and sliding windows and include:
- Full day nature drives: A picnic lunch is taken with plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs on the way round. The trip returns to the camp in the late afternoon.
- Half-day nature drives These are conducted in the early morning, returning to the camp for lunch. Late afternoon nature drives can also be organized.
Attractions:
- The Clay Castles of the Hoarusib River.
- Rocky Point.
- The roaring dunes.
