Meet your pilot at Eros Airport and fly by light aircraft to Swakopmund Airport. From there you will be transferred to the Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre and have the rest of the day at leisure to explore Swakopmund and enjoy optional desert excursions and activities. Our local Afro Ventures office will gladly assist you with these arrangements. The Swakopmund Hotel has been built in and around the old station building, immaculately restored to its former glory. This is the ideal base from which to explore the quaint charm of Swakopmund, the stark contrast between sea and desert and the haunting open spaces of the area. | 2 | Today you will be collected from your hotel for a full day spent discovering the treasures of the coastal desert. The desertscapes of today include the "Moon Landscape" valley of eroded hills, ancient welwitschia plains, the vast but extremely eco-sensitive lichen fields and coastal sand dune belts which merge into beach and sea. After breakfast you will be transferred to Swakopmund Airport for a low level scenic flight over the Namib desert to Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge. The lodge accommodates only 20 guests in intimate exclusivity and is situated in the northern reaches of the private NamibRand Nature Reserve, encompassing 180 000 hectares of pristine desert wilderness for residents only. This afternoon the resident naturalist will take you on a 4x4 excursion to explore the open grass plains, fossilised sand dunes and red sand dune belts of the NamibRand. The excursion ends in the dunes with sundowners and a spectacular desert sunset against the towering Naukluft mountain range. | 4 | Early this morning, we set out on a guided 4x4 excursion to Sossusvlei, site of the highest sand dunes on earth. The sight of the undulating sea of sand dune mountains is so beautiful it will be etched on your mind forever. In the afternoon we return to the NamibRand and continue its exploration on foot or by 4x4 quad bike. Return to the lodge for dinner and for star lovers, there is a chance to revel in the desert's glittering night skies aided by a high powered computerised telescope in the lodge's custom-built star gazing facility.
