Mundulea Private Nature Reserve in the Otavi mountains is roughly 120 square kilometres of prime Montane Bushveldt set in the unspoilt Karstveld south east of Otavi. It is perfectly positioned as a first or final destination of a Namibian holiday: not far from the main B1, about two hours' drive from Etosha's Namutoni Gate. Walking and hiking in this beautifully lush mountain landscape is offers the ideal opportunity to get out of your vehicle and into the bush. You will be accompanied by professional guide, Bruno Nebe who established Mundulea Nature Reserve three years ago to conserve and protect the huge diversity of fauna and flora which thrive in this rare and remarkable Karstveld biosphere.
Mundulea's dolomite, limestone and marble hills, adjacent to the Otavi Mountain range, are millions of years old. They contain caverns and potholes, deep gorges, underground lakes and caves. There are ancient Leadwood trees, massive Marulas, Wild Fig trees, White Syringa, Dombeya, Carrot trees, Nettle trees and Maerua; there are also countless species of aloe, acacia, fern, grewia and combretum. The farm itself is named after a beautiful purple flowering bush mundulea sericea, favourite food of the Eland, possessed of healing and magical powers, and found all over the hills.
Antelope species include Eland which come to the mountains to breed, Kudu, Oryx, Hartebeest, Dik Dik, Steenbok, Duiker and Klipspringer. Often-seen predators include Leopard, Cheetah, Hyena, Jackal, Lynx and Serval, Aardvark, Aardwolf, Bat-eared foxes, Warthogs and Pangolin. For bird enthusiasts, depending on the time of year, the farm offers a wide variety of raptors, owls and passerines and non-passerines ... about 260 species altogether.
We spend each night at comfortable tented camps which are spacious and fully equipped. We build a fire, share a meal and enjoy the sights, sounds and stars of the bushveld nights. Days are spent on walking and hiking trails between camps, carefully chosen to suit to the interests and abilities of our guests. Trails range from gentle ambles through sloping savannah, to rocky mountain climbs and descents into canyons and gorges. Alternatively, we can spend time tracking and spotting game at the waterholes or enjoying Mundulea's spectacular views across the Waterberg to the south and Bushmanland to the east.
You meet us at the farmhouse and leave your vehicle there, as we head off first by Land Rover and then on foot to explore the African bush at its natural best and least contrived. You'll need light clothing, a fleece jacket, good walking shoes, a large hat, decent sunglasses, sunblock, binoculars, a water bottle and a toothbrush. We provide everything else.
