Shortridge's Rock Mouse

Introduction: Little is known about Shortridge's rock mouse (Petromyscus shortridgei) other than it is smaller than the pygmy rock mouse. It occurs in rocky areas and is nocturnal.
Distribution: Extreme north-western parts of Namibia such as Opuwo, Ruacana Falls up to Epupa Falls.
Colouring: Dark coloured fur with grizzled upperparts. The underparts are grey and the chin and throat white. The tail is darker above and the upperparts of the feet are white.
Breeding: Females give birth to 2 or 3 pups.
Size: Total length is about 177mm.
These far northern regions of Namibia are home to most of the country's population. Oshakati where this lodge is situated is the heart of the region - expect vibrant markets, cows, goats, fisherman and a general hive of activity
